I saw people getting upset over Sparx receiving a voice change for the game in another topic. I thought I'd set up a new thread before that thread in particular goes out of hand with this issue.

Personally, while I grew more used to David Spade's role over time, it doesn't change the heavy criticisms that he received from the game reviewers. The way I see it, the voice casting department for the game took the criticisms to heart and decided to approach Sparx from a different angle.

If Spade did voice Sparx again, it can be true that some of us would be happy for that, BUT I can't imagine anyone else. Firstly, in A New Beginning your liking of Sparx would depend more on your liking of Spade. And secondly, it's going to cause everyone else to say that Spade did a timid attempt at it again, and I don't want to see that happen.

Besides, it's not the voice actors that I should care about for the game. It's the game content itself. Besides, absolutely NONE of the actors assigned for Spyro 1 worked on subsequent games. With that experience in mind, I'm sure the voice change for Sparx wasn't THAT big a deal.

Thoughts, anyone?

I dont know about anyone else but that dude had me looking for a way to turn his voice off in the options menu. I like to play my games loud and proud. Sparx in ANB sounded like nails on a chalkboard half the time to me. I'm glad for the change!

David Spade is NOT funny. He tries too hard! He should definately NOT be allowed to do voiceovers for ANYTHING. He's a horrible actor, too.
Every time I heard one of Sparx's lines, my face was just blank. Never laughed ONCE at that guy. (Remind me again, how is he the comic relief?)

While Billy West is teh smex when it comes to humour. His roles in Futurama had me in stitches. I just hope he'll transfer that talent to tEN.


But, really, if I want humour: I'll play Crash Bandicoot or Devil May Cry or Soulcalibur. kthxbai

Necessary idea. So many people were bashing and criticizing Spade's performance. It was a natural move to make. Though I highly disliked Spade's performance in ANB, I don't necessarily think Billy West is the best replacement for him either. I just can't imagine his voice ever fitting Sparx. Nevertheless, Billy West is a good voice actor so I'm hoping he will at least do some acting. I think the problem is that Spade had the right voice but didn't really act and that Billy West is a good voice actor but I worry his voice might not match the character.

I couldn't have said it better myself. David Spade seems to be the type who's all like, 'Hey everybody look! I'm funny!' When he's not funny at all. I'm very glad that they replaced him.

I am not happy at all! I've never heard David Spade OR Billy West, but I think Spade fits the part just right. His voice is funny and scarcastic, which fits Sparx perfectly. I think he did a GREAT! job in ANB, and I don't know how he didn't "ACT" when he acted just fine, and if he would to act any better, he would actually have to BE Sparx and move him around and stuff. But he's just a voiceover. And he should do the voiceover for all the Spyro games (well, in LoS, I like it when in the 2nd and 3rd game Sparx is just buzzing). Although, I didn't like the voice of Sparx in a Hero's Tail. Its just annoying. But I'm all for David Spade!!!

Isnt it obvious why they removed David Spade, half the magazines I read criticized his extremely boring voice! Billy West is gonna be alot better

i really dunno about it, david spade was...huh...6/10 but i dont know this guy either, i never heard his voice, coz i dont have cable tv

The thing is, David Spade is not a professional voice actor. I got the impression that he took the part in ANB because he was desperate and/or drunk. I liked him in "The Emperor's New Groove"; he put some heart into that role. But as Sparx? No. I wanted that dragonfly to die so badly because I wanted him to shut up.

Having heard a few lines by Billy West (including West's re-dub of some of the lines from the final scene of AN, I can say without doubt that he's much better as Sparx. While I'm not that fond of Sparx as a character in this new series (Daxter rip-off much?), Billy West makes him tolerable and even a little entertaining. A professional voice actor can make all the difference, sometimes.

Who? David Spade or Sparx? I think it's safe to say we won't be seeing Mr. Spade back in the Spyro franchise. I've heard that Sierra/Krome took the fans' complaints to heart, so he may have been ousted for his poor performance or they just couldn't afford to have him back. Either way, he's probably not coming back.

Billy West seems like a Sparx kind of guy; sarcastic, witty, slightly cowardly. Things you expect out of a sidekick. >.>

Billy West is the better voice over actor simply because its a huge part of his career, i believe. I have to get use to his voice in sparx's mouth, but good acting.

Gads, please no! D: I have compelling evidence to suggest that David Spade was hung over while recording some of his lines for ANB. I'd rather not see that happen again.

I think that Billy West is better than David Spade... Billy sounds so funny as Sparx.

Billy west is a much better Sparx, for one reason. Emotion! Anyone remember the cutscene before the Ice King? The 'Ahh'? My Buddah, that was worse acting than in Sci fi channel original movies, and they're a Brachiosaurus load of crud! Nuff' said.
