The Asian Giant Hornet has decided to take a vacation in the Good Ol' USA, it being first sighted in Washington State. These mean, little buggers are famous for their nasty sting, which has been described as "Having a red hot nail being driven into your flesh.". In Japan, they kill up to about 50 people a year and now they're seeing if they can break that record by expanding their horizons! What's worse is that they can, and very likely will (if they stay that is), have a massive effect on the common bee (One of their favorite foods), something that's vital to the ecosystem and the loss of them could be dire. Hopefully we can get them to buzz off before they do much harm!

I love wasps but not the invasive ones :( The bee won't be the only affected population if these guys make it big here

Not at all proficient but from what I can tell a lot of the first video is him trying to do small talk (with the wasp?) and freaking out when she starts acting up (though anyone could probably guess that's what's going on).
ngl have not really watched the second video |

We should introduce Asian Honeybees into our ecosystem so they can fight off these ****ers if they were to be a problem. It would also be cool to somehow teach the bees we have to attack the hornets by frying them to death.

cool idea, but wouldn't introducing another species potentially mess up the ecosystem even more?
unless you're kidding around and i totally missed the point ![]()

Biocontrol is very tricky, so yes and no. Just about every big country has a history of introducing species to hunt the other invasive species, and a lot of times that has ended in complete disaster with those introduced species harming / destroying that country's ecosystems. However, there have been some cases of successful biocontrol in Australia, such as with the Australian Prickly Pear + Moth situation. There are also cases where the introduced species are doing fine, but weather / climate ruin it. You have to control the populations very heavily (depending on the situation) and do a lot of research on that species and your own ecosystem, weather, and climate. So there's a chance it could be successful, and a chance it could end in disaster.
