When the chosen one is just a kid. Like, just a kid, just some (un)lucky ten-year old. For example, Aang, Ben Tennyson, and—oh, here’s something out of left field—Niko from Niko and the Sword of Light. Also that bratty pug kid from the Usagi Yojimbo arc of TMNT 2012. The world depends on an infant. Granted, these aren’t necessarily my favorite characters. Looking at you, Ben.

  • Magical girls
  • evil to good
  • were-creatures
  • cute but deadly (think kirby with a knife)
  • humans are the real monsters
  • skilled but naive
  • cute little fangs

thats all i can think of for now
thank goodness for tvroupes

edit: thought of more
  • vague line between good and evil -- especially when both sides are fleshed out characters
  • pirates!

edit edit: geez this topic really got me thinking
  • lesbians
  • overcoming abuse (especially emotional abuse)
  • nonhuman characters (especially as pov)
  • a noble sacrifice for the good of the universe

    • I love fantasy pirates, especially ones that also take to the skies. And I love fantasy pirates that are nonhuman. Boom. The best of both worlds.

    I’ve noticed that I tend to lean towards mysterious rogues or hunters as a favorite character archetype, with honor codes and what not. They’re fun to figure out and watch/read about.
