It's good! A few of the stages get a bit boring, but getting to watch your species succeed and build is worthwhile. You can even create national anthems for your civilizations. I think you can get the game on Steam. The original Spore demonstrations are better than the actual game. There's some from various gaming expos online. It was a more mature approach and included another stage.

no lie spore is my favorite game. i’ve been playing it since i came out the womb. so many memories. like when everyone would make their dragon OCS in spore and use galactic adventures to make “legend of _____ part X”

Yep, same. It looked terrible, just an empty hack-and-slash. Oh, yeah, the mods! I remember using those; at one point someone created a pseudo-Aquatic Stage. It always crashed my computer. There was also supposed to be a flora creator, I think. A group of science nerds wanted to make a spiritual successor to Spore called Thrive. I stopped following its development, but I’m pretty sure it never got off the ground...
Maxis planned to make a game called Spore Creature Keeper. Got cancelled. I remember watching this trailer right after I got home from school...and then watching it again and again.
