Perhaps it's just because so many video game series tend to turn to garbage down the road, but I'm used to not looking at a series as a collective. To me it's just a bunch of individual products created in relation to one another.
With that in mind, I don't really mind remakes. They tend to succeed or fail alone, and if they fail - as they often do - they just reinforce the good qualities of the original version given that it's still widely available.
