The only one
They were going to get him
Mavex ran, his feet pounded the muddy floor, while his head throbbed painfully. He could hear the horibble whisling shrieks of excitement coming from the Hargons behind him. Hargons were close reletives of dragons that lived deep underground. They had mud-brown, bony bodies and a long whiskery snout with a skull bone placed on top of their heads. Their wings were used as arms. They were sooty black and covered with spiney spikes. Their legs were heavy and covered in leathery skin with coal black claws so sharp and strong they could rip apart any creature with on swipe.
Mavex beat his wings over and over. He needed to live for all the other dragons had been killed. He had to bring them back. As he flew he banged into a leafy tree. He hid himself inside it, gazing over the top of each shredded clump of leaf, then he heard a shrill, cold voice cry out.
"It'll nearly noon! We must return underground, we shall search more tomorrow."
They all scampered off into random soily burrows.
Then Mavex hung there, shivering, then he felt a fierce nudge.
"MOVE IT!"
A black cat-like creature looked up at him. She had twinkling black eyes and a leathery nose with pearly white curled fangs. Her ears were thin and tufty, the inside of them a deep mauve. She had long bony legs and a thin slender body. She had sharp black wings with deep red wing-skin and a thick heavy curled claw on the peak of the wing. Lots of chains and bangles were prised onto her arms and legs and tail. Her tail was long and sleek, it coiled round thinly like a lizard's.
"I said MOVE I- 'Old the phone...you're a dragon right?" the cat-like creature said, its wings quivering.
"Yes, the Hargons are after me," replied Mavex.
"And what's an 'argon when it's at 'ome?" asked the cat-like creature. "I'm Ameix by the way."
"The Hargons want to kill me, put it that way. They have skulls on their heads, you can't miss 'em," said Mavex.
Ameix's eyes widened slightly.
"Like that?" she said, pointing with her hooked claws.
Mavex looked regrettably.
"Get your 'ead down there!" said Ameix seizing hold of Mavex's head and pushing it down into the leafy depths.
"This way! I saw the brute!"
The two hunched down in the sturdy tree, all they could do was hope they missed them.
