Why must these Hardcore (TM) Gamers obsess over petty things like how certain guns handle or how this or that character a, b, c needs to be buffed, nerfed or banned from tournaments?

Why not have a chicken ray gun mode in Call of Duty?
Why not make League of Legeneds unbalanced or just force everyone to play the vanilla version and never patch it?
Why not get rid of the whole ranking systems in multiplayer shooters and just let the gameplay itself (or the high scores) be the rewards?
Why not shove items, weapons and hazards in stages for Super Smash Bros.?
Why not every single Overwatch skin unlocked from the start and never having to unlock or pay for anything beyond buying the game itself?
Why not have the end of every Starcraft II match reward the winner with a big man crying to himself and text pops up and calls you a loser?
Why not have tripping in Melee?
Why there is no Marvel vs Capcom 2: Rainbow Edition for EVO?
Why not have that bit from Good Burger when Kel singing Bloobity bloobity on loop as the entire score playing in World of Warcraft?

Why not anti-hardcore everything?

Why not everything and a bag of chips? As in fish'n'chips, not crisps.

But wouldn't an extreme lack of balance just result in everybody, even noncompetetive players, picking whichever character ended up being the best? Just like, you know...

If the game only has Ryu players in the competitive scene, then it is logical to conclude that the game is already unbalanced and pros are only playing Ryu because he's the strictly best character. If the game was balanced you would see this variety you seek. You may think unbalancing makes chaos but it does the opposite, it forces everyone to conform, making a totalitarian tier list.

If it bothers you literally just ignore it. I don't follow the Smash Bros. competitive scene because the way I enjoy the series most is with items, stage hazards, timed mode, and using whatever character I feel like, regardless of how "competitively viable" they are. I like everything to be chaotic in that game, but there are people who like 1v1, no items, and only use a few of the stages. If that's how they enjoy the game most, good for them. You don't have to get so triggered every time somebody has a different opinion than you do. If somebody picking Ryu in Street Fighter causes you this much emotional distress, you should probably just ignore it.

Now I will say that unbalanced weapons in FPS's are the cat's ass
