Was anyone else scared by the Pixar lamp?

This one, with the lamp. I got scared ****less by this as a kid. I remember having a lot of nightmares about it, too.

Pretty sure kids got scared by a lot, and I did too, but this scared me the most IIRC. This is pretty much the only thing I remember constantly having nightmares about.

I swear, I thought I was the only one.

It wasn't the absolute scariest (remember Baby Einsteins? That goat was pure terror) but I didn't want to watch any Pixar movies for a while.

I wasn't sure I was the only one, but I couldn't find hardly anything online besides "Pixar lamp murdered that I", which seemed more of a lightheated joke. But, ****... yeah, this really scared me. I've always wondered how many others there are that were scared by this.

I'm not sure if it was always like this, but I particularly remember the screen going black at the end - besides the lamp, which just kinda stayed there, looking straight at me.

I wasn't necessarily "scared", but the way it just slowly turns its head to face the screen was just unnerving enough for me to hide behind the couch at that part as a kid.

Not helping was that I was a particularly easy-to-scare kid.

I also got scared or disturbed easily. Most notable example is Ghostbusters, and my father laughed at me because I was scared of it. I mean, it is pretty scary - how could you not expect stuff like the librarian ghost to not scare a 5yo kid?

I'm a lot different now. Stuff still scares me occasionally, but I'm mostly a lot braver than I was. Pixar lamp is still pretty creepy though, IMO.

Guess I am of the few who had nightmares then. There was also this one particular nightmare (not involving the lamp) that had another thing which scared me - something that I don't recall seeing elsewhere - and I never forgot that nightmare. That was pretty scary.

BND Mask (or whatever it's called, definitely involved BND IIRC) is also pretty scary. Never seen it on TV or anything, but found a few images when trying to look up stuff on the Pixar lamp. And yes, scary, because I don't think creepy describes it so well.

PS2 startup screen scared me a lot as a kid too. I also had a lot of nightmares where it would turn on by itself... I recall having one of those for the first time in years a few days ago.

Quite a lot of stuff from the 80's-90's was unintentionally creepy IMO. Logos, videogames, etc... I recall lots of surreal kinds of stuff happing in media during that era.

Also, SM64. Not a logo, but that game deserves a mention too. Surprisingly, I never got particularly scared by it, aside from that mother****ing piano and a bit of the endless stairway. However, I do remember a lot of smaller stuff scaring me, but not as much.

No, but the THX logo scared the crud out of me as a kid because it was so loud.

The other thing that scared me as a kid: the music that played when you get a Grand Star. I don't even know why, but I'd always run to hide behind the couch after I collected it.

Especially when the whole screen went black, then the light was the only thing you could see.

The absence of any kind of music or SFX was kinda creepy too IMO, with the only sound being the lamp bouncing across the screen. Then again, it could have been worse if they made the music also creepy (the PS2's startup music was kinda like that).

Never played PS1 much (very rarely, I only recall one time), but the PS2 definitely scared me. In fact, I might have even had more nightmares of that startup screen than the Pixar lamp.

Anglerfish from Finding Nemo was pretty creepy too. I always skipped that scene whenever possible.

A lot. I get them quite often, even now. Most of my nightmares when I was younger included stuff like earthquakes, more recent ones tend to include stuff like being in the middle of an apocalypse or watching someone get killed. There was this pretty interesting one a few years ago that even included a room of dead kids.
