Games that you respect but don't play

I respect Resident Evil. I look at the cutscenes, trailers, character and monster designs, the tension and the campiness. Playing the games on the other hand is a different because I'm afraid of screwing up by wasting ammo, crafting the wrong items, the puzzles, saves ribbons in the older games, those chainsaw maniacs in 4 and then knowing that in RE2, if you pick up every item you see as Claire, there won't be any for Leon. I'm sure everyone else see them as well balanced but it's all too intimidating for me to handle.

In fact, nearly all survival horror games are like that to me as well as adventure games from LucasArts and Sierra. I'm happy they exist but I suck at them and don't I'll ever have time for them.

What franchises and genres do you respects from a distance?

I rarely play TLoZ games and am terrible at them, but I still like them a lot. In fact, ALBW is the only TLoZ game where I got to the final boss IIRC. I haven't even got past the first few dungeons in most games - it took me like 3 years to beat the second dungeon in OoT.

ALBW is also one of my favourite games of all time.

Outlast 1 & 2

I'm not one for horror but I watched some playthroughs and it seems super cool.

We Happy Few.
It looks like a super interesting game, but it just doesn't seem like a game I'd want to play.

Also, Subnautica. I have played it, but very little. It's a shame, because I love both the ocean and survival games, it's really popular on YouTube, and I really want to get into it, but I just can't bring myself to it most of the time.

Final Fantasy.
I like the characters, lore, music and artstyle and I enjoy playing Theatrhythm and Dissidia, but I don't really enjoy the gameplay for the main games as I prefer action RPGs over turn based ones. I probably wouldn't have even known anything about FF if it weren't for Kingdom Hearts.

I don't really play wide open sandbox games (except Breath of the Wild), but I enjoy watching others play them. For example, I like watching my boyfriend play games like Dead Rising, but mainly because he'd rather mess around on them than play through the story.

Some indies, Cuphead and Dark Souls. Great looking games guys, good job. But not repeating the same mistake as Crypt of the Necrodancer and spending full price on something I can't finish. If only Steam allowed you to buy soundtracks separately...

Fighting games (I don't buy them b/c I know I suck at them) and a large majority of the Zelda games. I acknowledge that they're fundamentally great and really well-made games but for whatever reason I can just never get into them. *shrug*

It's not as hard as people make it out to be, but it's that kind of game you have to finish without switching to something else because it's very easy to lose the flow. Not my kinda game considering I constantly take month long breaks.

Dunno, might have to check GOG. I thought about Bandcamp but not every artist sells it there.

All of the dragon ages. The story is very very good, but I just hate the combat system.

The Sonic the Hedgehog series. I love the characters and universe of Sonic, but it's always difficult for me to keep up with the speed of the games. I have trouble focusing while playing them, especially the newer ones with more stuff going on around you. I don't hold it against the games though, as I know speed is supposed to be Sonic's thing and plenty of people are able to play them just fine. It's not a problem with the games, it's more a problem with me.

Not a fan of games with no real ending or fully focused on multiplayer (Animal Crossing, Overwatch...), but I can see their appeal.

Any type of micro manager. Games that take into account the smallest of things to survive or build. Examples like Sims, City Builders, minecraft, eve online. I don't have the time or patience, but its pretty cool seeing what people create
