Balance, can't stick with one. Happy and ignorant can be easily broken and challenged, free and depressed makes it easier to fall for lies because they just sound so likely.

Using very vague terms here, since you didn't specify where.

I think she means the context (political, personal...).

I'm not sure what the context is, the two don't seem like opposites. I derive happiness from my freedom. Do you mean would I rather be in a constant state of bliss (i.e Heaven) but could never escape, or be free to make mistakes and be said in equal parts to my happiness? If so, I'd rather be free. I'm British, my national sense of humour is laughing at the misfortunes of ourselves and others in even the most dire situations, so I'm naturally adapted to the natural chaos of the universe. You could condemn me to Hell and I'd be writing "Blackadder's Fifth Deadly Sin" for the Bubonic Broadcasting Circle.
As egotistical as I am, I'd be bored stiff without adversity and challenge. smilie

I'd recommend checking out The Happiness Patrol starring Sylvester McCoy. It's Doctor Who so it's going to be tongue-in-cheek, but the serial explores the idea of enforcing happiness to help society.

Liberty gives us more routes to find happiness and it is basically the core concept of modern democratic western society. Freedom is more important at least to me. I was going to write a wall of text but I decided not to. Happiness is relative to the surroundings and in limited political environment the options to reach bearable level of existence (i.e. happiness) are not that varied. So in my own personal opinion freedom wins this by a ridiculously bigger margin.

I might give you more opinions... for a small fee of course.

Without going too deep, I'd probably just say happiness.
