I'm kind of thinking of getting into the series and I'm curious, how good is it? How different is YK1 from YK2? If I get YK1 , can I go straight to Yokai Watch 2: Psychic Specters? What if I just get the latter game? Do I mis anything from the first, outside of characters?

I suggest getting Yokai Watch 1 and Yokai Watch 2 Psychic Specters. As I feel YW2 would be a bit confusing without knowing what happened in YW1
Note: If you get more then 1 copy of the Yokai Watch 2 games (Fleshy souls, bony spirits, Psychic Specters) , then you can get some exclusive stuff if you connect them together.
