We're born, we grow up, grow old, then we die. Part of that includes pop culture around us. I imagine kids of the 1950s who were into rock'n'roll thought The Charleston (1920s) to be lame. A lot of us already think the 80s is stupid and kids today think the 90s are dumb. Soon future will think the 10s is lame.

It's the natural order of youth culture.

I only like 80's metal. Anything after that is far too pop-esque for my superior elitist tastes.

Speaking of which, I've noticed many modern metal bands heavily draw inspiration from 80's metal. Can't they come up with anything more original?

I know what you mean, although aside from all the nu-metal/metalcore/emo-influenced "metal" that came along in more recent times, the following decade at least allowed for more distinct subgenres to develop. Like black metal for example, which is about as far from pop-esque and as heavily elitist as you can get (sometimes to a ridiculous extent).

i think saying "there is no good music anymore." isn't true. music tastes are in the eye of the beholder. i don't like rap, and my favorite song is a rock song. however, the person sitting next to me might think the opposite. sure there are legit bad songs out there like this but no single genre itself is bad.

The government are gonna ban all videogames that don't follow the very strict set of rules that have been set. Even Super Mario will get banned 'cause the game doesn't assault our mind with subliminal messages.

And the internet will be stricly monitered by government officials, so the soundtrack will also be banned.

It's a fair alternative, although not likely to be something you hear being played on radios, or in public places, or as something your friends download from iTunes. What gets out there and is readily accessible to a wide range of ears is usually the defining subject when we talk about music in terms of how it ties into and influences culture on a mass scale. And I'm not too optimistic about its trajectory so far.
It isn't the genres themselves that's the problem, just that they usually pick the most stale, primitive representatives of those genres that define themselves through really shallow, superficial lifestyle attitudes.

Every decade has its fair share of good and bad songs. (like Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini [from the 60's], Baby Got Back [the original Anaconda from the 90's, Anaconda sampled this song], Mo Bounce by Iggy Azalea, Despacito)
