After a conversation, I realized that I have been conditioned from childhood to never say the word "what." If anyone said that to anyone else, they would go "You said the word!" and you had to try and trick someone else into saying it. As of this day, if anyone calls my name, I always say "Yeah?" in case I would catch the dreaded word.

Now, I tried to look it up on the Internet. Nowhere. Did anyone else actually do this, or was it just confined to my school?

We don't use words like can't in this household :)))))))))) You can do anything, never say you can't do something :)))))))))))))))))))

My mother hates the word "normal" for some reason. Then again, she did legitimately say she wanted to buy a cauldron, so maybe it's just got something to do with how she perceives the dark arts or something. IDK.

Back in elementary school my classmates would play this game called “Five minutes to get rid of it!” It was kind of like “Jinx”. The whole idea was to try and trick someone into saying the word “what”, and if they did, you’d say “Five minutes to get rid of it!” Then they’d have five minutes to try and get someone else to say “what” or else... um, they lose or something, I guess? I never really knew what the punishment for not getting rid of it actually was. It was just a stupid game.

It kinda sounds like you had a similar experience.

^ No prob. I never thought I’d find someone outside of my old class that had to deal with that.

Ugh, I hated that game. Someone would call your name, and mostly everyone would say "What?" Then kids would be like, in a mocking tone, "Haha, you said the wo~rd~". Eventually I started saying "Hm?", "Yeah?", or "Huh?". I have been saying what again, but still. Children games like that are really stupid.

Another one is where kids try to make the other kid say "Under where?" People eventually just started saying "Where?" The kids were so peeved, lol.
