it just seems that nowadays people just act like assholes and say offensive statements but say its just satire when they get called out. the definition of satire is "the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues" which apparently translate to making fun of the mentally disabled. is it weird that family guy knows what satire is compared to tons of angsty teenagers? and the thing is i also do the same thing so do i really know what satire is?

People going to the extremes rather than using humor as a way to clear the mood. An angsty teenager isn't going to look to make someone else laugh, they want to laugh at someone's expense and maybe get some brownie points with their equally angsty friends. Combine that with the growing attitude of "the world is too politically correct, let's go to the literal other extreme and get offended when someone doesn't let us be unecessarily rude".

some reasons i can think of

the political climate of the last 10-20 years has made people act more offensively in order to fight what many believe to be an overly sensitive culture that wants everything to be safe and clean

angsty teens and young adults hate themselves and it's easy to pick on the mentally ill to make themselves feel better

some think that humor is synonymous with insensitivity and you are truly only funny when someone gets offended

Well, I'd say making fun of people (satire) CAN be done in god way, but it needs to be done a respectful way, if possible. Making fun of the disabled is in no way "satire", to me, at least. Satire typically has intelligence to it and even sometimes a message.

The reason Family Guy knows what satire is is because the people behind ARE intelligent and know what to make fun off with out going over the line despite just sometimes ALMOST going over the line. Angsty teen on the other hand, is still budding and learning, and as a resultm may not know better.
