Right now, I am offended by the following. What about you, brothers and sisters?

The Hugh Heffner commercial on football.

A Levi's Jeans interracial kiss on a commercial.

The singing of Berlin's Take My Breath Away the sodomite Top Gun theme song.

The constant cramming of the homosexual lifestyle down our throats with the Prius commercials.

A commercial in which people ripped their clothes off in a Jack in the Box ad. You on the east coast were spared from this perversion.

NBC's Rainbow Logo.

The guy next to me didn't take off his hat during the singing of The National Anthem.

The guy next to me didn't pray before he ate.

The length of the bartender's shorts.

Ben Roethlisberger's satanic hand gesture at the end of the game. Very, very offended here.

Andrea Kramer being so old as a sideline reporter.

The Steelers winning.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone for their weird hate-boner over the Millennial entire generation (aka the majority of their audience for 20 years).

Sam Worthington being a thing and inspiring the AAA industry to make every protagonist a boring bald white man with no personality aside from having a gun.

Twitter for refusing to deal with Nazis and instead shut down Vine and make the avatars round.

The Tories and the DUP.

People still demanding content creators, game developers, actors and artists to keep politics out of the content they make (YouTube videos, articles, video games, etc.).

Mark Wahlberg's fanbase ignoring the fact Marky Mark makes bad movies with the same performance he does in The Happening.

People demanding innovation for Tekken but never being specific on what kind of innovation and how it risk alienating the core fanbase because every Street Fighter is exactly the same game but with each having major annoyances like gems.

I can go on but you get the idea.

Maybe not bald necessarily. Sometimes it's really short brown hair. Sam Worthington made some Hollywood movies between 2008-2012 very boring and the AAA industry think a boring featureless protagonist is what everyone needs.

Oddly enough, some of those "boring, featureless protagonists" are widely considered to be some of the most iconic and memorable ones in gaming history. Fancy that.

The personality of a character goes beyond their looks. It's in their backstory, their motives, how they talk and act, and what their perceived values and thoughts are like. Their appearance has very little to do with it indeed, and boring characters tend to come in all shapes, sizes, genders and colors.

But these people are boring. They all look the same. You can make whatever character you want. It can be a tall purple guy, a star with limbs, a space cat with a robot backpack, the possibilities are endless but the AAA industry would rather boring human soldiers and their games suck.

They're so boring, it's infuriating.

do u understand that in a realistic (as in not anime/taking place in the real world) setting there arent a whole lot of hairstyles for men? especially in the military(which most of the men in that post were from some kind of military shooter, im guessing) where they HAVE to wear their hair a certain way?

But there's no soul or passion behind most of the games with these kind of settings or aesthetic choices because they're all about chasing the Call of Duty crowd. To publishers that aren't Activision, if each new Call of Duty can sell 10 million copies, therefore they make games like Call of Duty in order to as profitable as Call of Duty. The cover for Bioshock: Infinite only represents the action bits of the game but not the point and that was intention to sell more copies. Ken Levine himself said the cover is what it is to sell the game to fratboys.

Let's be honest, even the most niche-centric gamer is gonna be eventually open-minded to play one of these kind of military games (even just to wonder why they're so popular) while CoD-fans are completely close-minded towards niche games. It's these kind of idiots that inspired EA into forcing Insomniac Games to turn the colourful Overstrike into the dull-as-heck FUSE. These bro-gamers say they don't have time or that the games looks gay if it's about a person that isn't a white and male (Lee Everett or Max Caufield), dealing with situations that can't be solved by simply shooting it, or a non-human protagonist like Amaterasu from Okami. Even if it is about a white straight man, fratboys and the so-called true hardcore gamers will still sneer at games like Firewatch for not being realistic-looking or having terrorists to shoot. Or if it's not FIFA.

I know the military aesthetic can be used well when you look at games like Metal Gear Solid, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Spec Ops: The Line but the whole If it's not like Call of Duty, it won't sell attitude from publishers boggles the mind and time and money was put into awful crap like Quantom Theory, Call of Juarez: The Cartel, M.A,G., Inversion and Resident Evil 6. Before the internet became really accessible where I am, I had to make due with magazines and tv shows on Sky about video games but they cover realistic military shooters most of the time and they left no strong impression but were still over-exposed. It was dull but then it became infuriating when I realised these are the only things people want now (for the time), which had me horrified as I knew what the next decade would be like and it left me angry.

I can at least say things are better now but remembering them still feels offensive because, knowing they were all everyone wanted.
