So, I just helped a Minecraft Skywars YouTuber with 91K subs launch his own Discord server last night, and while the hectic activity of the launch influx has stopped, there has also been an instance where there were 6 impersonation accounts, pretending to be the YouTuber. Some of you may remember me having made a topic about him in the Video Games section, but for those of you who don't, his name is TapL.



I believe I'm doing okay at the moment, however, but I feel like there could be another insane moment that maybe I couldn't handle on my own. I'm not asking for mods for the server, because that'd just confuse the heck out of TapL, but do you guys have any advice for me?

Not really what I'm looking for, but okay, I guess? I'm more so looking for advice as to who I should trust to become a mod maybe, as to who I should look for? :L

I'm not an expert on servers, but I might be able to help.

In order to get rid of the impersonators (I can't tell if you did this yet or not), you need to make sure that only you and the actual YouTuber have administrator/operator status, so that only you and he can use commands. Then, identify all the usernames that are impersonating the YouTuber, and use the /ban command to ban them. You can only change your username once a month, so they won't be able to keep bothering you forever. If they do rejoin the server, they will hopefully choose a better name. If not, you can just ban them again (or you can ban their ip address if they're persistent.)
Basically, just ban anyone you see who is impersonating (although you should probably ask them to leave or change their name voluntarily first.)

I don't really have any advice as to who you should choose to be mods. Maybe just watch them while they play and offer them the privilege, but ban them if they try to abuse it? There might be a way to make it so that you can't be banned by other players, in which case you could undo any large scale damage that is done.

Yeah, you obviously don't know how Discord works. The YouTuber has joined before we released the server, and I already gave him an identifier role that also serves as an Admin role. I've been through the impersonation process already, but am now looking for advice as to what other possible situations I should look out for. I know impersonation isn't the only behavior I should take action against.

Also, Discord bans both the account and the IP they were last using the account on.
