The cause of the door slamming shut wasn't made immediately apparent. Not at first. Eventually, however, a shadow casted over the floor, then the wall as whoever it was approached. Coming to stand in the doorway, the stranger was finally revealed to them. It was a security officer, evidently, given their uniform and what appeared to be a riot helmet of sorts on their head. The face shield that covered their face was translucent, able to be seen out of but not into. Thus, it was impossible to tell just what this person was thinking. The only thing that mask showed was a reflection of Digby and Aileen, two individuals who most certainly should not be there.

"What are you doing in here?" It was a woman's voice, sharp yet somewhat muffled from her helmet. "You can't be here." As if to further her point, she laid a hand on her holstered gun. Jerking her head towards the direction of the exit, she ordered, "Get out, now."

Those orders having been issued, she stepped out of the doorway to let them pass, her hand still over her weapon in a very clear message of, Leave now, or I will make you.

As Quake spoke to him, Michael listened thoughtfully as he always did. As he did so, he raised a brow ever so slightly as the man relayed this information to him. How did he possess such knowledge? Ah, he must know from his former lady friend, he surmised. That answer seemed to satisfy him. As the man went on explaining how the empath would attempt to get some sort of clue from the corpse, said empath nodded, his mouth set in a fine line. He understood the necessity of it, but it still made him wary, all the same. The man - or woman - must have died a horrific death. Did he really want to go probing into that negative energy? Not particularly, admittedly. And yet... something told him that he must. If he could figure out something, anything about what happened to the man, perhaps to see just who the murderer was... was that not worth it?

He had little time to ponder it, for soon they were approaching the office of Emi, presumably. The moment he saw her, he smiled softly, trying to seem friendly. His smile instantly vanished, however, at their exchange. Ah, there was a story here, Michael could feel it. He looked to Quake questioningly as if asking what that was all about once the woman retreated for the second time, but he soon averted his gaze. It wasn't his place to pry, really, though pry he unintentionally tended to do, what with his empathy.

At Quake's question, the empath hesitated, then shook his head, a frown on his face. The frown lessened ever so slightly, however, as he considered what he could do. He could hardly make people open doors, but maybe... Yes, it might work.

Taking a deep breath, Michael laid a hand on the door, seemingly concentrating on something. This normally was easier if he was in physical contact with said person, but he wasn't, so it would prove to be more difficult. Closing his eyes to further his concentration, he allowed himself to become something akin to an emotional sponge, soaking up all of the anger the woman on the other side was feeling. If rid of her anger, perhaps she would open the door. Only one way to find out.

When Vi's complexion visibly paled, Arthur knew he had screwed up. How exactly was beyond him, but he knew one thing for sure: He screwed this up. Any civility offered by the young woman would surely be renounced. He was broken out of his thoughts by the sound of the dog barking, which startled him enough to jump back half a step. Great, even the dog hated him now. He opened his mouth, perhaps to apologize, but nothing came out. There was nothing but the subtle passage of air from his lips, then a shaky sigh.

He was in the middle of wondering if the dog would attack when Vi managed to get his attention. He watched as the two of them embraced, wondering if he should spout out a "sorry" and take his leave. Before he could, however, Vi spoke up again, this time telling him of something terrible that had evidently happened at the Town Square.

Pausing hesitantly, he eventually came to ask, "Zat bad?" His own heart began to race. What had happened? Something so terrible that she couldn't even talk about it? But... "But I sought ve vere safe here, from... zem." By "them," he meant non-outcasts who no doubt hunted their kind down every day. Bringing a hand to rest it over his forehead, he shook his head, perhaps in denial.

It was supposed to be safe here.

Vi squeezed Dano tightly, while he nuzzled her. She took a deep breath, taking a moment to gather the strength to talk about previous events. "I-I thought so, too..." she muttered, nearly too quiet to hear. She took another deep breath, and tried to speak louder now, "I don't k-know who or... what did this, but... It was all j-just... So horrible..." She managed to speak a little louder, but her voice was still shaky. "T-the state of the body... How t-terrified they must have felt... W-whoever did this... They're really a monster..."

Digby had pocketed the newspaper clippings, maybe those paid sleight of hand magician training videos were paying off or maybe it was that the woman that caught them paid no attention to the clippings and was more focused on the surprise of the two kids being in a highly sophisticated government facility, either way Digby knew it was time to leave. "I-We were, we were just looking for the bathroom we...We're going." Digby grabbed Aileen's hand to show that if this woman tried anything he would protect her and himself, he wasn't going downtown, not after this giant discovery...But why were those clippings in the statue folder? Most of them had nothing to do with the statue, someone had to have placed them there on purpose this was no mistake. "Come on Aileen let's...Let's go find, let's go pee in the real bathroom." He said nervously as he led her to the large metallic door.

------

Quake waited with baited breath as he watched the young boy do...Whatever it was that he was doing. He didn't pretend to understand it but he certainly appreciated it. After a few moments the door swung open and Emi stood in its frame. "You have five minutes."

Quake had nodded at Emi and turned to Michael, offering a smile and a wink as if to say "Follow my lead". "Emi."

"Emilia. It's Emilia, you know that and you still...See this is one of the reasons we didn't work. You follow me for weeks asking me out day after da-" "I did not follow you. I worked at that bar and you showed up every night." "DON'T INTERRUPT ME VIRIDIUM, YOU OWE ME MY ANGER" This girl, despite her contrast in size to the towering giant that was quake, was practically in his face, her finger pointed at the top of his chest and pushing in. "I FINALLY say yes to you and what happens?" "I-" "You what. Say it, Admit what you did." "Emi I swear there was a reason for i-." "IF ANYONE WAS GOING TO SNEAK OUT A BATHROOM WINDOW IT WAS ME, HOW DID YOU EVEN FIT THROUGH IT." "Emi." He grabbed her by the wrists which was provoked from her beating her fists against his chest. "Emi. You have the same eyes as someone I once knew, innocent, full of hope. But everyone I meet ends up...I had to go." "Humph!" She broke from his grasp and turned around, her arms crossed as her chest. "And now you've come crawling back because you want a booty call?" "WHAT!? N-NO!" "Sure, big boy."

"Emi. We know the body is here and we need to see it." "Oh god is this one of your kinks"

"My friend here," Quake gestured to Michael, whom Emi hadn't even noticed she was so red with anger, "He thinks he may have...He may have known the person who died and he wants to get a better look. Don't do this for me...Do it for him, Look at him he just wants to know if the person he cares about is okay."

Emi turned back around and looked to Michael, it was evident that cared as she stared into his eyes. "I..You owe me one, Viridium."

The girl sighed and walked over to where the bodies were kept. "It's weird though..I haven't been able to do an autopsy but...I don't know he seems...Not new." "You mean old?" "Yes but not...Not old old but like, old old, y'know?" "...No." "This murder wasn't new." "Wait what're you..." But as the drawer opened Quake ceased his speaking and instead covered his mouth in shock. The body was gone.

The moment the officer had marched into the room and made her threats, Aileen had frozen, eyes locked on the visor that hid this person's face. Well, this was starting to go as poorly as expected. What was to be said for themselves? She couldn't even think of a quip on how badly Digby's attempt at feigning innocence was, let alone what to say to make it look like they belonged there. Which, being two scruffy kids in a sophisticated record-keeping room, was nearly impossible to do.

In fact, she didn't even try. When her partner in crime took her spindly arm and dragged her towards the exit, she did nothing to fight it, only mouthing a silent "sorry" to the officer as they were about to pass her.

The guard said nothing in response to Digby's inane rambling. Instead, she simply kept her hidden eyes trained on the two, her hand still on her holstered weapon, clearly ready to take action should one of them make the slightest wrong move. As they walked past her, she remained still and mute. When they had made it past her, however, she began to follow closely behind them, escorting them out.

The empath honestly wasn't expecting his intervention to work, so he was surprised when the door swung open and the woman bid them entrance. She still seemed angry, however, so maybe it had more to do with a mood swing of sorts than any powers of Michael's. Whatever the reason for her change of heart, he was grateful for it, as now they could get to seeing the corpse.

At Quake's smile and wink, he returned the gesture with a minute nod. His nerves were starting to get the better of him, or maybe that was the anger radiating off of the woman. Either way, something was beginning to gnaw at him. This something, however, would very quickly turn into a sense of awkwardness as Quake and Emilia exchanged words. Oh... they certainly had history. Yes, definitely. And as they went on, he really got the feeling that he shouldn't be hearing any of this. Nope, definitely not. Turning his head away, he tried to drown out their personal conversation, but it was proving rather impossible with their close vicinity and the rising volume of their voices. So he didn't try to block it out anymore. Instead, he simply busied himself with counting floor tiles and examining dust bunnies, anything to give the pair some semblance of privacy.

When he was mentioned in their conversation, he lifted his head just in time for Emilia to stare into his eyes. Well, it would be practically impossible for her not to get some sense of grief or loss from him. His eyes shone with concern, both for the deceased individual and everyone else living in this camp. Something terrible had happened, something that seemed to have seeped into the empath's very skin. She wouldn't be getting apathy from him, that much was certain. So he really shouldn't have been surprised when she allowed for them to see the body, but he was slightly surprised, all the same. Perhaps it was because he knew his ability to deceive was severely lacking. Well, he supposed that was yet another reason why Quake was doing the talking.

As Emilia led them to where the bodies were stored, Michael was mentally preparing himself for the onslaught of emotions that would no doubt hit him as the drawer was opened. He was interrupted, however, by the woman's words. His brow furrowed slightly. This murder wasn't recent? But when...?

His train of thought was cut short by the opening of the drawer. Instead of a barrage of emotions like he had been expecting, he felt only one emotion now, and it was his own: shock. The body... the body was gone! But how...?

Looking up to Quake, an unspoken question shone in his eyes, which was then directed at Emilia. How had this happened?

- - -

"Body?!" Arthur yelped, his skin turning several shades paler. Covering his mouth and looking from side to side as if seeing if anyone had heard his little outburst, he took a deep breath, letting it go in a shaky exhale. Removing his hand from his mouth, he whispered, "Zere was... a body? Somevone vas... murdered?" He felt sick, and he hadn't even seen any of it, unlike this poor woman. Suddenly feeling like he should comfort or console, he opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. What was he supposed to say? Are you okay? She obviously was not okay. He wasn't okay, either, and he hadn't even been there to witness anything. Trying to gulp down the sudden lump in his throat, he eventually came to say, "Did zey... catch zem? Zee von who... did it?"

At Arthur's question of murder, Vi closed her eyes tightly and nodded her head frantically. She squeezed the Corgi in her arms tighter, who fidgeted slightly in protest, until she loosened her grip, for his sake. "Sorry, Dano..." She whispered to him, not meaning to squeeze him so tightly. The Corgi licked her cheek. Vi shook her head at Arthur's other question. "N-not yet..." She muttered. "The Captain said that he's... W-working on that..."

After Digby and Aileen had been so kindly escorted out of the facility, he turned to her, his head hung low, the shadows cast by the sun blocking any facial expressions he had. Shortly after he slowly began to raise his face upwards towards the giant girl, a sinister smile on his face, it was as if he'd been possessed by pure evil, but no this was not the face of pure evil but of pure happiness, "Do you know what this means?" Digby began to rub his hands together menacingly. "These clippings had no reason to be in that file, I mean, that was too easy. So..." There was only one logical answer here, only one reason why the door was left unlocked, why those clippings were so advantageously in that file when they seemed to have nothing to do with each other. "Someone knew we'd come looking. This means we aren't the only ones hot on the trail of a mystery. I was right! This must be some big conspiracy, I mean, that was sooooo easy and we can out unscathed and with proof of uh...Well I don't know what yet but these things must be connected somehow right? I'M NOT CRAZY, RIGHT!?"

-----

"I-I don't...IT WAS JUST HERE I SWEAR!"

"Emi are you sure no one came to-"

"I AM SO FIRED!" Emi was curled into a ball on the floor, rocking back and forth her arms hugging her legs.

The giant turned to his tiny partner, it was odd and possibly a bad sign but this sense of intrigue, of mystery, it was exciting Quake like nothing had before, a body was missing and yet he was happy but not in the traditional sense, the fire inside of him had died a long time ago, but this mystery was beginning to stoke at the burning coals left behind, reigniting something deep down, he finally felt he had a purpose now, to find who committed this heinous murder and put them to justice or to rest. "I don't understand what's happening...But we can't let this news get out. There would be panic. Even more so than there is now... I'd say I'm a good tracker but there's no signs of any break ins or anything."

"I've been here this entire time."

"That's not possible, are you sure?"

"OF COURSE I'M SURE, UNLIKE YOU I DON'T JUST LEAVE PLACES!"

"Michael, is there no way you can try and sense if anyone's been here? There must be some sort of...I don't know, some sort of emotional trail left behind."

Maybe there was nothing they could do, after all Quake was no officer, even if they found where this person was hiding out they couldn't just take them in or prove anything. Maybe it was useless to even try.

"SHUSH!" A hand slapped over Digby's mouth. "Shush! You are crazy if you think you can just--" Aileen's eyes shifted across the courtyard that had just echoed with their voices. Still not certain that no one was watching or listening, she leaned down, her lips next to his ear as she said, "There's two sides to this, Digby. If someone wants us to find it, then there's someone who doesn't. We could get in even bigger trouble if we go around flaunting it. Do you understand this?" Another glance around her led to a gentle shove on the boy's shoulder, urging him to move. "We can't stay here. Let's go home and figure this all out there."

The empath almost didn't hear his present company going back and forth. No, he was too busy staring at the place the body should have been. Occassionally he would glace to Emi or to Quake, but for the most part, his stare remained set on the drawer. He wasn't too sure what to feel. On one hand, he didn't have to face the no doubt terrible sight and sensation that a dead body would bring to one such as himself. On the other hand, this... this wasn't good. He didn't claim to be an expert in solving mysteries or murders, for that matter, but he knew that a disappearance of the body was bad news. It would no doubt not only make the killer that much harder to find given the lack of evidence the body would provide, but something else nagged at him, too. Who would have the authority to have the body moved? Or who would be able to sneak it out without witnesses? A shudder passed through him. The killer could have very well been in this exact room where they were standing. Who knows how long ago that was? If they'd come just a few moments earlier...

But Emilia... she had been here the whole time. Though lost in thought, Michael had heard that much from the woman. A chill coursed through him. Did this make her a suspect?

That train of thought was interrupted by Quake. As the giant made his suggestion, the empath gave him a worried look. Oh, how he wished he could communicate at times. Not that it would do well to voice his suspicions about Emilia right in front of the woman. Besides, he wasn't sure how well Quake would take that information. Perhaps it was best if he kept it to himself. For now.

Removing his gaze from the gargantuan man, he instead peered at the drawer where the body was supposed to be lying. Looking back to Quake, he nodded slowly. Perhaps.

Turning back to the drawer, he let out a long breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. Alright. Alright... he could do this. Raising a hand which may or may not have been trembling slightly, he slowly shed his glove. He held the discarded article of clothing in his opposite hand, looking down at it almost longingly. How he'd like to slip it back on. Nothing good really came from removing his gloves, one of his many barriers against the rest of the world's emotions. No, he mustn't think of that. Instead, he focused on the task at hand, a sudden look of determination gracing his features. This look didn't last long, instead being clouded with doubt and perhaps even a touch of fear.

He wasn't sure he could do this.

- - -

Arthur didn't have the slightest idea how to react to this. How was someone supposed to react to this? He wasn't ignorant or naive. He knew the world was a dangerous place. But something like this... this was the sort of thing that happened on the TV screen. It didn't happen locally, it happened far, far away! Yet now here he was, right smack dab in the middle of a murder investigation. Okay, so maybe he was overreacting. It wasn't as if he had even been there or saw anything. But it happened so close by, he felt that he might as well have been there to see it for himself.

Swallowing down a sudden lump in his throat, he stammered, "V-Vat do vee do now?"

Vi shook her head gently. "I don't know. The captain said he'd take care of it. In the meantime... He said to just stay safe, like do nothing outside of school and stuff, so I guess we just stay in our cabins for now?" She shrugged, really unsure of what to do.

What all could one even do in this situation, if they weren't part of the law enforcement? It didn't seem wise to do much aside from stay home and wait for it all to be over. Of course, Vi would be back in her cabin right now, if she didn't have obligations to take her dog for walks. Crisis or no, the little Corgi in her arms still needed to get his exercise somehow. Besides, he did make a decent guard dog in a pinch. Vi felt safer with Dano around to protect her.

However, while thinking back to the captain's words, she remembered that she was also told not to talk to strangers. Vi knew that Arthur was technically a stranger, but surely the kid wasn't dangerous, when he seemed at least as freaked out over the recent events as she was. He wasn't even there to witness it either. Besides, Dano would warn her if he had any malicious intentions. Still, she should probably warn the guy, to be careful around others.

"Um..." Vi began timidly, "Maybe you should be careful for now? Like around people you don't know, I mean. Like just be careful who you talk to, alright? The captain said not to talk to strangers. So..." She trailed off, not sure what else to say. She didn't want to say anything else that would cause either of them to be any more scared than they already were.

"Let's go home and figure this all out there."

So they did. Digby was starting to get the hang of flying and he was really getting the hang of not crashing into the ground at high speed and murdering them both. Eventually they reached Digby's cabin, there was silence for a while as they sat on the brown leather couch, Digby's face in his palm as he thought of the right thing to say. Maybe there wasn't a right thing to say, or anything good to say at all. They'd just broken into a government facility and stole something, they were very clearly involved in something deadly and dangerous. It was evident from, well, everything she'd been saying that Aileen wasn't exactly thrilled that they'd gotten themselves involved. But something kept nagging at him, it was like, someone knew they would go to that file room. "So um." What was there that he could say? "Listen, I get it you don't want to be involved but," He sat up from his slouched positioned, leaning forward and staring out the window. "What if it was your parents. There's no way you wouldn't get involved right? I never knew mine so, Deidicus was the closest thing to family I have and I-I know that sounds stupid but, I think it's like...I think he'd want me to look into this I mean we can't trust anybody, not even the police. Anyone could be involved so we only have each other in this, someone left me those files, they weren't just, they weren't just there for some random person, they were put there for me I just know it. I think we should investigate the murders of the people killed all those years ago. If we can find someone, a link, if we can find a link between them and this...Please."

-----

Quake gave Michael some space, he didn't understand how his powers worked so maybe it was pointless in doing so but he felt it proper nonetheless and besides, he wanted to talk to Emi. Still curled up in a ball on the floor, Quake knelt down, normally he would have put his hand on her shoulder but he felt like keeping his arm that day. "Emi,"

"Don't Viridium, Just..Don't. I know what you're going to say, I shouldn't feel bad for losing the body, well guess what! It's my fault and I-" "I was going to say I'm sorry for crawling out the window." She sniffed and looked up, "Go on." "It was childish, I need to realize that my past is not my future. I'm glad I'm getting to see you again I just wish it were under better circumstances." "Viridium what if I did this...You know that when I touch people I..." "You had gloves on Emi, you always have gloves on." "But what if they had a hole in them! Maybe, Maybe this guys power was teleportation and I touched it and enhanced it somehow!" "He's been dead for years you said that yourself. The light in him has all since flickered and his powers with it." "You're real poetic aren't you." "I always did think your true power was sarcasm." A smile flickered on Emi's face, that was a first ever since they got there. "Come with us. We'll help you find the body, I promise." "You promise a lot of things." "But this time there's no bathrooms for me to go to." Emi chuckled, another first. "Okay. I'll come with you."

Quake looked over his shoulder at Michael. "Wait...Emi! Touch Michael!" "HOW MANY KINKS DO YOU HAVE!?" "Use your power amplifier. Maybe it could help him trace the trail." "Oh my god you're right!"

Emi unfurled from her spherical pose and began to approach Michael. "Michael, right? Listen, I'm going to put my hand on your shoulder. One of my powers is an amplifier, when I touch people it makes their powers more effective, more focused. It just might work." So that's what she did. She removed her glove and placed her hand on the Empath's shoulder. "God I hope this works."

"Now remember Michael it's highly unlikely we'll find the body just from this, but if we have a direction, a general idea then we can start asking questions."

Improving in regards to preventing death by ground collision, perhaps Digby was, but not so much at keeping them from picking themselves up looking like scraggly bushes. If someone had happened to walk in their lounging area, they would have thought the landscaper had gotten lazy, or had played some ridiculous prank. Honestly, who knew, with this place. Things were just getting weirder and weirder, Aileen thought, and that was coming from an eight-foot-tall teenager who spent half the day staring directly into the sun simply because she could. Speaking of weird...

"It's not stupid," she said at last, breathing a long sigh. "Honestly, I can't say I know what I'd do if it was my parents." She tugged yet another twig out of her tangled hair and twirled it between two fingers, folding her legs over the couch cushion as she investigated it. "And I get it. It seemed too easy. The door wasn't even locked, and..." Yet another sigh drew out when she leaned backwards. "If someone wanted us to find them, who's to say that they're even on our side? What if they just...?" She shook her head and dropped the twig, letting it flutter to the floor. "Now I'm the one who sounds stupid."

Salamander my dudes

Name: Raymond Freeze
Age: 23
Personality: rough around the edges, loyal, neutral sense of mortality. Believes in the greater good for people, tries to help as much as he can. He sees the world as real as can be. He tries to be a real as he can be. There is no sugar coating things for Raymond. He also doesn’t put up with anything from others. Very self sacrificing in a way. Takes his job super seriously.
Appearance: Raymond is what most people would call the athletic type. 5’7”, 185 pounds but it’s lean muscle with hardly any fat on him. He has a square face, freckles, short black hair, and stubble. Eyes are brown with flecks of light orange in the irises. He is normally seen in his work clothes, a gray shirt with “MEDIC” on the back and black pants. When not working, Ray is in jeans and different colored shirts.
History: grew up in a small town, south of the camp’s region. His father was a right jackass, abusing Raymond’s mother and him. His dad had a heart attack in the midst of one of the many fights and mom had him call the ambulance. Ray’s dad didn’t make it but something clicked in Ray’s head. He could do the same thing these EMTs and paramedics do. He could help people in this very same situation. Went through high school, preparing himself for EMT basics. He passed the Basics about middle of his class and became a hardworking person unlike his dad. This left him with a sense of duty to help and do things for the better good of others. Raymond’s powers didn’t show up until he was a few months into his job as a medic. A particularly horrendous emergency caused the flames to show up, and it was because he was attempting to stop the bleeding of a car wreck victim. Tourniquets weren’t working on this person and the only other way was to cauterize. And Raymond did it, on accident. Blue flames came from his hands, and the amount of horror that came from everyone drove Raymond to the camp. Since coming the camp, Raymond has gotten a hold of his powers quickly, and helps out the camp by being on the medical team.
Powers: Pyrokenisis in a way. Raymond can produce a blue flame from his hands but when the flames are present, the bones in his hands are visible, and he control other flames. Water and Raymond don’t work when he is using his powers. If his hands are “extinguished”, it physically hurts him and leaves scars across the hands.

Raymond thought to himself while he sat next to an unconscious kid on the gurney, and he was assuming this kid was Jet. Raymond seen him around a few times, the dorsal fin on the kid’s back mainly stuck with Raymond, it was his way of remembering who was who. The medic had him laying on his side, where he wasn’t on the fin. Nothing stood out to Raymond, no injuries but a few bruises. However, following protocol, he had to be transported.

“What the hell is going on? Everyone is just in mass panic about something..” Ray was talking to himself. The day’s event has gotten so jumbled, so many different stories and having to keep people calm. Transports weren’t too bad when there wasn’t somebody on the verge of death in the back of that truck.

A look from the medic was tossed towards Jet, mostly out of curiosity. “What did you do, dude?” It’s not like Ray expected an answer but it was just something to do to pass the time.

"If they weren't on our side wouldn't they have, I don't know, left a bomb instead of newspaper clippings?" Digby sighed, starting to doubt himself. "What do we matter anyways, we're just two kids, we aren't important...So that does raise the question, why leave clues for us, maybe...Ah hell maybe I made all this up in my head, maybe it was coincidence or for someone else and we just happened to...Gah. No. No we can't..." He shot up from his seat, pounding his fist against his chest. "I know we were meant to find that clue. We have to continue searching, like I said, we're just two kids, we don't matter, so no one would suspect us even if we did start digging. "Clearly that meeting had something to do with the bodies that went missing. If we can somehow...You said you'd vaguely remembered that court case, right? Heard your parents talking about it? So that means, there's gotta be case files! We find the lawyers for that case and we can find those files, yea? And if we find those files we can find the names of the victims, and if we do that, we can talk to their families, maybe find out who the other two members were. If they're still alive maybe we can ask them what exactly happened at that meeting!" He fell back down into his seat. "Ah that's stupid, how are we gonna do any of that!" He began to rub his temples. "Maybe we should just give up..."

Jet hadn't given a damn about the statue, but he thought it would be a good place to lift some wallets. His assumption was correct but he'd had no idea what would have come to pass. All he see was the crowd headed straight for him, he could feel the shoes and heels and...Boots? in this weather? crush him and there was blackness.

...

"Ugh...Where in the hell...YOU!" He exclaimed at the medic, snarling, his incisors twinkling in the light above him. Jet attempted to jump off the gurney but couldn't muster the strength, whatever movement he did make resulted in excruciating pain. "**** ME" That's when he noticed the medical equipment around him. "Jesus...Hey! Doctor Asshole M.D.! Why not pump me some damn morphine, can't ya see a brother's in pain!" He grumbled and laid back down, he knew there would be no getting up at the moment. Thankfully just like a shark could regenerate teeth, Jet could regenerate his own body and strength so it wouldn't be long before he was standing again. "Jeez, ain't anybody ever seen a dead body before? Think they gotta rush an innocent bystander cuz of it?"

Raymond pulled back when Jet jumped up, both hands curling up into a fist and lightly smoking as an automatic defense mechanism. What the hell was this guy’s deal. “Listen buddy, it’s Doctor Smartass, and not allowed to do that. Paramedics are,I am not.” He was pretty calm for being called an asshole but it was a part of the job.

“I’ll tell you something I learned a while ago... A person is smart when alone, however when you get a crowd of people, they get stupid.” He was pretty much quoting a movie but that was besides the point.

“You’ve got some bruising, but nothing extreme. You’ll be good after they check you out.” Raymond was nonchalant about it all as he gave the kid a look over.

“What happened anyways?”

Give up? Well, frankly, that wasn't a bad concept. Like Digby said, they were just two kids. Though she worried little about their perceived inability to make change in the world; it was clear that they had gotten themselves into something far worse than a potential existential crisis. As someone who placed the well-being of her friends and family on the top of her list of priorities, she felt obligated to agree. Yes, they should give up. Lock the clippings away-- hell, throw them out, even-- hide in their cabins, and wait until the case runs its course and things go back to normal. They didn't need to be involved in this. They didn't need to make enemies.

And yet...

"I... I don't remember a lot. Maybe I only remembered anything because... I mean, who the hell steals dead bodies? It doesn't make sense..." Her eyes were downcast. "Let me see those newspapers," she said, extending her arm and opening her hand.

Digby nodded, pulling out the newspaper clippings and handing them over to Aileen. "But how would we even go about finding the case files? There's no way it'll be as easy as strolling back to that basement...Even more so knowing there's guards down there that saw us." The boy ruffled his hands through his hair, pulling at it slightly. "God this is so hard, do you know anyone involved in the courts? I mean, god we must have an in somewhere, I'm the only living relative of the Founder for God's sake!" It was as if a lightbulb had appeared above his otherwise clueless head. "Oh my god. I had an idea! What if we visited The Reaper in prison! Got him to tell us about the bodies he took, he must know their identities, right!?"

Jet snarled, "Ain't nobody or no thing checking out my precious bod, Just lemme down a bottle of Aspirin and I'll be outta here lickity split, kapeesh?" His regenerative powers were beginning to kick in, this was evident as he was able to lift himself up from his laying down position and sit up on the gurney. "As for what happened... Ain't you medical dudes s'posed ta know everything round here? Or was it nothing at all.. I never care to remember. Just turn on the radio you'll find out. Now help me offa this thing and show me the exit."

After running across the articles a few times, brows furrowed over them in thought, her eyes flicked up to extend their scrutiny to Digby. "That's... maybe..." A doubtful hum was locked behind her lips. "But how would they let us? We're not related, or otherwise involved." Those brows furrowed even harder as she gave him the same look that stopped her sisters in their havoc-wreaking tracks. "We're not breaking into a prison, before you ask."
