I recently got a PS4. I know next to nothing about the system, and the last PlayStation I had was the PS2. I was wondering, does the PS4 require an external memory device to save, like a USB drive? I am just asking because I know the PS2 needed a memory card, but I know the technology has obviously evolved.

Nah, it has 500gb of onboard storage so you should be fine.
