Batman sucks now

Though The Dark Knight and the first Arkham games are great, almost everything with Batman now is either mediocre or just plain crap.

The Dark Knight Rises is disappointing, Arkham Origins and Knight were bad, the Arkham VR is sickening, TellTales Batman is pointless, The Killing Joke animated movie is tasteless, Batman v Superman is an excreted travesty and not even Ben Affleck is confident in making a new film for the face of the DC Cinematic Murderverse. It's ironic how characters in Japanese media are hated for whining but when Batman, a 40-year-old billionaire who beats up homeless people, cries about how his parents are dead all the time.

Batman has gone full-on edgelord and I can't him as seriously as Shadow the Hedgehog, which is really low. The overexposure these recent years have derailed the character and damaged his reputation. How the mighty have fallen.

At least there's Batman & Robin: Return of the Caped Crusaders and the Lego Batman movie. At least they have a sense of humour.

I don't think his reputation is ruined per say... You can still go back and read the old comics and watch the old Tim Burton flicks if you so wish. In this day and age of Hulu, 4K Bluray releases and straight up pirating, you can always go back and rewatch the old things if you really want to. I just watched Batman Returns for the first time recently and it was fricking awesome!

In terms of if Batman sucks now... You literally just listed off two recent things that are Batman related that you perceive to be good! Obviously, there are going to be a few bad interpretations down the road. I don't think it's fair to call the entire character "dead" when you don't even seem to read the Batman comics. How can you honestly sit there and say that EVERYTHING BATMAN DOES IS CRAP when I haven't seen you mention a single word about the comics?

Granted, I don't read comics... but hey, that's just me.

I'm not referring to the comics. I think there's too many adaptations of Batman right now. Most of them are personal stories about Bruce Wayne and his obsessions. I feel everytime they make a Batman movie or game, instead of exploring different ideas, they go through a checklist of Batman angsting (usually dead parents), being pushed to the edge and the Joker appears and talks about how they're not-so-different. The tagline for Arkham Knight was BE THE BATMAN. Haven't we already been the Bat in the last three games? It's all routine at this point.

Yes, the older stuff is still there and they're not ruined by all this but I just want Warner Brothers to give the character a break. Keep the comics going but let others have the spotlight. I know the DC Cinematic Universe might do that let's see how many movies filmmakers will commit to.

If you wanna hear my honest opinion, I think we need a Batman equivalent to the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show. A show that celebrates the legacy and spirit of the franchise and is a true to form action show. Sorta like The Batman from 2004 but with a less annoying Robin.

I wouldn't mind seeing other D.C. characters get the spotlight. There is a show coming out called Justice League Action, but I'm not sure how good it'll be

No experience with Arkham Knight or Telltale yet but The Dark Knight Rises was good, and Lego Batman looks to be great.

I agree that he's too commonly used to be edgy. DC has constantly been trying to capture lightning in a bottle twice (thrice?) with The Dark Knight, and it's to a point where it could negatively affect its other films. BvS was guilty of being too dark and having a Superman on the same level of Nolan's Batman, spouting lines that he shouldn't be saying until like eight movies into the series at best.
And then Suicide Squad got ravaged in editing in an attempt to lighten the mood because of just how dark they made BvS. Go figure.

Batman should absolutely be the darker of the superheroes. But they seem convinced that the only way to make a superhero movie good is to be like Batman; and the only way to make a successful Batman product is to be edgy dark. Lighten up a little. Adam West is not blasphemy.

I liked Arkham Origins. Never understood the hate it got.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Probably the best Batman produced media in the last ten or so years.

Batman is gruff, cold, and a loner... but he's not angsty and emo. He's teamed up with more light-hearted characters, but he never goes full-on Adam West (which I do enjoy, as a period piece). He's the straight-man - as he should be.
