....But why does the forums need the /spyro/ bit on it? forums.dark.spyro just ives me the forum with one link and....you get it

No, I think there's only one link to the forum directory. That shorter link you typed in isn't the real webpage, and only serves to redirect you to the one and only proper link.

You're missing the point. It's not like there are two links that exist; only one. The link you think is unnecessary isn't a duplicate of the same webpage.

If you type in "google.com", you'll be redirected to the site "www.google.com". "google.com" isn't a duplicate website. It's just a link that takes you to the correct website.
