Story
The story of Skylanders Imaginators takes place long ago when the Ancients used a mysterious power known as "Mind Magic" to create everything in Skylands. With it, they conjured into existence anything that they could imagine! However, they soon learned that in the wrong hands, it could be very dangerous, and so they sealed it away so that it could never be misused. After discovering this ancient secret, Kaos has unleashed the power of "Mind Magic" into Skylands once again - and he is using it to create an unstoppable army of Doomlanders, the likes of which have never been seen! Now it's up to Portal Masters to create Skylanders Imaginators from their own imagination and stop Kaos and his evil Doomlanders before it is too late. And to help train them, Eon is sending the greatest mystic warriors of all time - the Senseis!
Characters
For new playable characters there will be 20 brand new Skylander Senseis along with 11 former villains. Along with their element each Sensei will also have a Battle Class such as Smasher, Knight, Ninja, Bazooker, Quickshot, Sorcerer, Brawler, Sentinel, Swashbuckler, or Bowslinger.
Characters known so far include King Pen, Golden Queen, and Tri Tip.

Creation Crystal
Included in the Starter Pack is a Fire Creation Crystal, this allows you to create and store your very own custom Fire element Skylander. To create a Skylander of a different element you'll need to purchase a Creation Crystal of that element.
Starter Pack
In the Starter Pack you will get the Water Sensei Master King Pen, the Earth Villain Golden Queen, and a Fire Creation Crystal. The portal included appears to be similar in style to the Swap Force portal.
There will also once again be a Dark Edition of the Starter Pack, it will contain three Skylanders (King Pen, Golden Queen, and Wolfgang) and three Creation Crystals (Fire, Life, and Dark). Images have also surfaced of the pack with an Imaginite Chest toy that probably unlocks some kind of exclusive gear for your Imaginators.
And there will be an exclusive "Crash Edition" only available on PlayStation 3 and 4, it has the same contents as the regular edition plus the Crash Bandicoot and Dr. Neo Cortex toys.
Platforms
So far it appears that the game will only be appearing on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the Wii U. That means no Wii or 3DS versions.
