Ah well. A fanfic. My first, and it will be short. But here I go.
Blackout peered around. He was sitting in his cozy nest beside his mother, who was waiting for the father to return from hunting. She folded her red wings over Blackout, protecting him from the wind.
Blackout's mother was Cynder. His father was Spyro.
He had inherited the black color from Cynder and the wings and tail of Spyro.

Blackout was very bored. Spyro was still hunting. So he decided to ask Cynder a burning question that he had pondered since he could ever remember.
"Mom, who was Dad's father?" Cynder gulped and shifted nervously. Blackout didn't need to know. It would ruin his life to know he was descended from.... "To be honest, Blackout, I don't know." But she did. She remembered that day, twelve years ago (Blackout hatched three years ago, he had learned to speak in a year and a half). They were at Malefor's Lair, ready to confront him and end the reign of evil. Malefor told Spyro that he should carry the flame and follow in his father's footsteps...And Spyro had said, "How would you know who my father is? Even I don't!" And Malefor laughed, a cruel, dark laugh that rang throughout the chamber for a long time. "Hahahahaa, that fool Ignitus never told you, did he? Perhaps he didn't know, or didn't want you to. But you will know now. I AM YOUR FATHER! Buahahahahah!" Spyro shouted, "NO!" And then Malefor possessed Cynder, and Cynder resisted, and Malefor had said, "Fine. Do the same as he. Prepare to die!" and had flown up out of the ceiling. Cynder and Spyro followed, Spyro trembling with shock. Cynder didn't say anything to him. |

Cynder turned back to Blackout and spoke.
"While we're waiting, why don't you exercise your magic?" Blackout nodded vigorously and hopped to a safe distance. First he tried out his Shadow by Shadow Coiling a tree (a Shadow Coil was two bands of shadow rope-stuff that wrapped around a target, sometimes tightening so hard that the target bulges where the rope isn't holding it). The tree's bark had bent in where the Coils had been. Then Blackout tested his Electricity, zapping a flower bush. Tendrils of blue and yellow lightning flowed through the leaves and branches. Fire. Blackout performed a Blaze Strike, a bit like a flaming Scorpion Strike, with fire instead of Poison. Finally(he was panting by now), Poison. Neon green acid flew out of his throat and hit another tree trunk, upon which the bark shriveled and turned black where the poison had hit. Staggering, Blackout collapsed in the nest and promptly fell asleep out of exhaustion. |

I love it how Malefor is Spyro's father, wait a minute, I thought that Malefor said there had been many and anyways, Spyro wasn't even 20 yet, and Malefor was 1,000,000 I thinkk, so how can he be?

There had been many. And remember how they said dragon eggs take a long time to hatch? And besides, Malefor isn't a million years old. And it said that it took twelve years before Spyro defeated Cynder, so I'm guessing he was about seven(because he was raised by Sparx's parents for a afew years). But it's fiction! So relax, get settled, and enjoy the show.
Cynder smiled at the little form of Blackout laying in the soft grassy bottom of the nest. Then she heard a rustling. It was the flapping of membraned wings, the flapping of orange wings on a purple body. Spyro glided to the nest and laid three rabbits beside Blackout. "I was watching him practice," he began, "and he's very skilled. I have a feeling he will do more than live up to us." Cynder cocked her head. "What is there to do in order to gain honor? Malefor is gone, and all of the evil in the world is gone with him. There's really no one to defeat." Spyro hung his head. "Except himself." Cynder shifted. "I don't know what you mean, Spyro." "Do you remember, nineteen years ago, when I defeated Gaul and darkness overtook me? I was dark, and I was dark three years later also, when Ignitus passed. Well, you have been possessed by him in your history, and you've become Dark too, before we confronted him. So there is a bit of dark blood in Blackout, from both of us, and thus he will strive to be good, but the small bit of Malefor and darkness in his veins will fight against him." Cynder sighed. "We will do our best to keep him from swaying away from the light." |

Blackout heard Cynder's sigh and woke up. He saw Spyro and said happily, "Hi, Spyro! How was hunting??? Was it good?"
(he called spyro Spyro instead of dad or father because he thought it was respectful). Spyro laughed and reassured him it was. Blackout shook his body and stretched, then said, "I'm going for a walk. I'll be back soon, okay? And don't worry, I'll be fine. Nothing in these woods can match my power." "You're right, Black. Absolutely right." Spyro said with a bit of a fake grin. Blackout didn't notice the fakeness and bounced away in the same style of jogging as Spyro had when he was very young. "Nothing but himself..." Spyro said slowly after Blackout was out of sight. Blackout wandered about, observing the trees and soft moss. He had never been this deep in the forest before. Suddenly he heard a voice. Low and growling, snarling, eternally evil, echoiing throughout the mist. "Blackout..." "Who are you?" he said to the voice. "I am Spyro's father. And I am the black stain on your bloodline." "What? I do not understand." Blackout replied. " I am Malefor! I am your ancestor! Rather, I am my ghost. Muahahah!" Then the voice spoke no more. Blackout felt angry. He suddenly didn't want to exist. If he was the descendant of the most evil, cruel, and bloodthirsty being the world had ever known, the grandson of the one who resurrected the Golem and the Destroyer and made the world crumble, then he would be shunned and hated for the rest of his life! He felt anger toward his parents and suddenly went dark. His eyes glowed white and his body was blacker than black, black as midnight, black as onyx and black as Malefor's heart. When normal his body seemed dark but compared to what it looked like when Blackout went dark it was gray. "ARRRRRRRRRRRRRGHH!!!!!!!!!!!!" he shouted in frustration, his voice echoing for miles. Spyro and Cynder heard and Cynder moaned, "No...." |

Blackout felt fire blazing through his veins. His instinct told him to do what his anger wanted him to do. And it wanted him to attack Spyro.
He sprinted back to the nest, exhaling shadow fire with every breath. As he went, poisonous thoughts flowed through his mind. How dare they let my egg hatch, if they knew I would be scorned and disgraced! They should have cast it into a river! Spyro - Cynder - You'll pay for this! Cynder saw him coming and so did Spyro. "You won't hurt him," Cynder said quickly. "No, of course not. Never. But get up into that tree just in case he gets violent." Spyro replied. Cynder flapped her wings vigorously to reach the top. Blackout stopped in front of Spyro and rose into the air, with wings outstretched and eyes glowing. He opened his glowing mouth and inhaled to get ready to breathe flames. Then he stopped. He collapsed onto the ground and slapped himself across the face. |

What's spas?
Spyro looked at Blackout. "tell me what happened." Blackout said, "I was in the forest and the wraith of Malefor appeared and told me he was my grandfather and I got angry at you and went all black and i came here and here we are." Cynder(who had just flown down) sighed. "Blackout, you must work your hardest to follow the light. If you don't you will just get worse and worse and will eventually be like a second Malefor. And everyone would scorn you and say it was ironic, for you are the son of those who saved the world." Blackout looked down. "I didn't try to. It just happened." Spyro leaned toward him, "I know. But you must resist. Let your anger get up to a simmer, and just before it becomes a rolling boil, turn off the heat." The little black dragon nodded and promised to try his hardest. He ate a bit of rabbit and curled up again. He had had enough for one day. Spyro waited for him to fall asleep, then told Cynder, "I have to go up to see the Chronicler," he said, then began the hour-long flight to the Chronicler. When he arrived Ignitus greeted him warmly, but Spyro noticed that he was getting very frail. After he gave Spyro a welcome he sat down immediately. "So, Spyro, what is troubling you?" Ignitus asked. "Well, Ignitus, Blackout went Dark today for the first time." "Ah." Ignitus summoned a bit of strength to walk over to the window and look out of it, blue gem bouncing against his chest. "Spyro, don't forget that you did the same, and it ended up ridding the world of Gaul. Darkness is not necessary evil, but when you use it with bad intentions it is the essence of evil. The entire world is enveloped in darkness at night, but no harm comes of it. It is not a symbol of destruction." "But Ignitus, he said that Malefor appeared and told him - !" "Then that is bad," the Chronicler said slowly, a smile no longer on his face. "Do not let him go out alone anymore for at least six months, until he forgets about the whole experience and is too busy thinking about hunting, flying and other things. We will just have to hope if that fails." Spyro thanked Ignitus and flew back to the nest. He fell asleep promptly, thinking that what he was going to tell Cynder could wait until tomorrow. |

Morning came, and the sky was stained with red. Spyro woke up when the sun was still rising and gently shook Cynder. She awoke and they flew up into a tree so that they wouldn't be heard by Blackout and could still keep an eye on him.
Spyro told Cynder about what Ignitus had said and she took it fairly well. From then on Blackout was not allowed to go out into the wood unsupervised and the two dragons would have to keep him occupied with various things. Weeks passed, and the little dragon's wings grew larger and his muscles stronger. Soon he was able to fly as smoothly as a gliding hawk. His dives were magnificent. And he was also an exquisite hunter, thanks to Cynder's educating. Any deer in his presence were as good as dead. He practiced all of his elements except Shadow(which had been a tough thing to lie about, in Spyro's case), and he showed his colors in that too. Blackout seemed as if he was the optimum model for dragons: smart, strong, fast, clever, and stealthy. Then it happened. Cynder was taking a walk with him in the woods when he spotted another dragon. It was reddish-orange with yellow chest plates and wings, and its eyes were blue. "Hi," Blackout said. "I'm Blackout." The dragon bowed and said, "I'm Blaze. Flame's my dad." "Cool." The two began to talk about whatever young dragons talk about, and Blaze soon broached the topic of ancestors. Cynder saw Blackout's muscles becoming tense. "So who was your grandfather?" Blackout liked Blaze, and figured that he wouldn't be too disgusted by the information. "Mine? Oh, it was Malefor." He was wrong. Blaze jumped back and stuck out his tongue. "Ew! Yuck! Get away from me, you Dark freak! I can't believe I ever talked to you! I should be disgraced, I've had conversation with the grandson of the Dark Master! I'm contaminated with Shadow! I'll turn evil! You jerk!" Blackout got very angry. Very angry. So angry he wanted to rip Blaze in two. Frankly, he snapped. He leaped onto Blaze and knocked him over, standing overtop of him. He had gone Dark again and his eyes were bright as the moon. "You," he growled, "You will NEVER do that again. You scum! You call me a jerk because of my ancestor, and it wasn't my fault! Can YOU control who YOUR grandfather is?!?! NO! Because you get who you get! So shut up next time you meet someone who has Malefor for a grandfather because it WASN'T THEIR FAULT!!!!!!" Cynder had run over when Blackout snapped, but he was finished by the time she got there. With a whisper of "Sorry," to Blaze, she grabbed Blackout by the scruff of the neck and took flight with him in her grasp. |

They got back to the nest and Cynder put Blackout down. She told Spyro in a whisper what happened. And he was not happy.
He rolled Blackout over and stood with a paw on his chest so he couldn't move. "You," he said firmly, "Will never do that again. You are disgracing my bloodline and yourself! The son of Spyro and Cynder, those who saved the world, is becoming a second Malefor! If you do not stop you will be severely punished." Then Spyro thought of something worse. "If you do not stop you will be cast out of this nest into exile." Cynder spoke up. "Spyro! How could you! You've threatened him enough! I don't think he'll do it again!" Spyro increased the pressure on his paw. "Actually...I think he's done it enough already to be punished. By dusk tomorrow he will be alone in the world. So enjoy your last day with us, o my Disgraceful Son." Cynder gasped with anger. "Stop it, Spyro! I'm serious! He didn't do it on purpose!!!!" Then she leapt at him, ready to give reasons for Blackout to stay. Spyro grabbed Blackout and flew away as fast as he could with him. Cynder cursed and flew after them. Spyro found a thicket to hide in. He and Blackout stayed there until it got dark(Blackout still struggled, and Spyro swore he could see his scales going dark for a second or two). Then he flapped his wings and rose to the top of a very tall tree. He gently set Blackout in the branches. "I'm sorry, Blackout. Do try to live a full life. If I don't hear of a second Dark Master you can come back." Blackout didn't let the tears come out of his eyes until he was sure Spyro was long gone. And Cynder vowed she would find him, no matter the cost. She would locate Blackout and carry him home. |

Cynder was not at the nest when Spyro arrived. She had left a note. It read,
Spyro, don't do this. Forgive him and help me bring him to his true home. Spyro felt very guilty and foolish. He tried to push it out of his mind but couldn't. He knew that it was his fault... if he had just told Blackout not to do it again and drop it, Blackout wouldn't be angry. And now Blackout was probably so mad that he would want to destroy the world. And if Spyro hadn't exiled him he wouldn't be mad, thus he wouldn't want to blow up the whole stinkin' earth! Dang, thought Spyro. Dang me. |

Blackout was depressed for several days. Then hunger began to claw at his stomach, and he was forced to move from his spot in the tree.
The only thing that was big enough to sustain his hunger and be small enough for him to bring up the tree was a large rabbit. He strained his wing muscles flying up, but in the end succeeded. Dragons are not picky eaters. Most ate bones, flesh, skin, and intestines. Blackout thought that the organs were a bit too slimy for his tastes. He threw them all to the ground (sixty feet down, where they landed with a sickening split) and then dug in to his meal. When he was finished he searched around for a stream or small pond. He found a tiny tiny one and drank heartily, because he knew it would soon dry up and he would have to find another. There was one thing that stopped him. Looking around as he drank, he noticed the footprints of a dragon. His heart froze over and he flew back up to the tree, then slept. He had thought that living alone would have been horrid, but it wasn't bad. He actually liked having freedom and being able to eat as much as he liked. Blackout still missed his parents, though. No matter how unfair Spyro had been, Blackout loved him the same as he did Cynder. But he swore that there would be retaliation. Someday. The next few months passed like so, and Cynder was searching for Blackout from dawn until dusk every day. He remained elusive, however. She began to lose hope. After a year she stopped and just tried not to think about it. |

Tick tock. Tick tock. It was now three years after Blackout was exiled. He changed his name to Nightcloud so that his identity would be hidden and his parents would be protected. But I will still call him Blackout. Anyway, he was very large and now as black as coal, not the purplish-black that he had been as a hatchling. Blackout looked like this.
The dragon had waited for three long years. It was time to act. |

Two Months Later
Blaze sat in his cave next to his daughter, staring blankly at the now extinct volcano that had once been the birthplace of the Destroyer. He thought of how his father had lived in Malefor's time. And he thought of the Floating Islands, and of who lived there now. A huge dragon, dark as night. Suddenly he felt tired. Limping, he made his way over to the bed of straw and curled up in it. He fell asleep promptly, his daughter Syrenr sitting next to him. Then came the nightmare. A black creature approached him. It spoke in a voice like thunder. "Ah, Blaze, you cower in your cave, unknowing of what you have caused! Well, I will tell you now, so that you may wallow in mud for shame of what you have brought upon this world!" "What?" Blaze asked drowsily. "Hahahahahhahahha! Do you not remember? Then I will tell you!" And then it told Blaze something that shook all of his bones and made his legs shake underneath him and finally buckle, making him fall to the ground. He woke up suddenly and raked his claws down his head, the skin on his face stretching downward. "No..." For a new era of darkness had begun. And the Shadowkeeper was entirely in control of this world. The Keeper did not seek to ruin the whole world, but did anyway, just to make one dragon pay for what he had done. And that dragon's name was Spyro. Now a middle-aged dragon, Spyro was a bit weaker then what he used to be, but still a good fighter. Cynder was the same. One night Cynder was looking at the stars when a dark shape came hurtling down out of the sky. It was the Shadowkeeper! "Don't you dare try to kill me," she snarled, "If only you knew who I am!" The dragon spoke calmly. "I know who you are. You are Cynder, the has-been Terror of the Skies. You saved the world years ago. Your son was exiled." "And you know this how, you scum?" Cynder growled. "Because I am your son. I am Blackout." Complete silence. He continued: "I punish Spyro for his rash actions. I did wrong, but deserved not exile. And I also punish Blaze. So this entire age of shadow is, essentially, Blaze's fault." Cynder stared in disbelief. "Well then. I am a bit ashamed, but I agree that what Spyro did was a bit too rash. But please, Blackout, end this horrible time." A single tear shone in the Shadowkeeper's eye. "I will try." Then he flew away without a word. And Blaze sorrowed in his cave, for Blackout had told him in the dream who he was and why the darkness was his fault. He wallowed in shame and guilt. Blackout resolved to end the war. Soon. Tomorrow. Next week. Someday. And there you go. That's the end. Short but enjoyable(I hope). |

Ah. I suppose you want an epilogue....
***EPILOGUE*** And for twenty long years, the world was punished for the sins of Blaze. He never showed his face to any other dragon. His neighbors would walk past his cave and bend their heads, just to spit viciously on the outside surface of it. Every dragon that passed did this out of anger. They all knew that their children, their dear hatchlings, should not have to mature in an age of shadow. They should be able to frolic in the grass with their friends, not be confined to the cave. Blackout never forgot his promise to Cynder. For two decades he reigned powerfully, dominating the world, until he announced that he would end the terrible time of strife and hate. Many dragons had started toward him, ready to kill, and he had lain down, ready for death to come. But then they came. Two dragons, one purple, one black, both with hoods and armor on their bodies. They got hold of him and flew away with him to their cave. And revealed themselves. Blackout apologized. His parents forgave him. Then he curled up in his cave and slept. Dragons hunted him, but he was elusive. He lived a good life. Then came the day. He was now an adult, and nearing middle age. Cynder and Spyro were now a bit old. He had lain himself down on the floor. "I have sinned. And I have been forgiven. But have I been forgiven by myself?" cynder said nothing. "No. I have not. I meant to bring shame upon Blaze, and I did. But I destroyed too much. And now it is time for me to balance the scales." He eyed a sharp dagger on the floor next to him. Picking it up, he put it on his chest. "Now is my time, Cynder, Spyro. I have caused too much in this world." And before Cynder could process what he was doing, he lifted the dagger. Spyro grabbed CYnder's head and wrenched it away. When she turned back she saw Blackout. Laying on the floor. With blood dripping down his sides. He had died out of shame and guilt, the same things that made Blaze such a recluse. And the world recovered. And eventually, it was as if the whole thing had been good. But it was never known what had happened to Blackout, son of Spyro, son of Malefor. It was never known. |
