I've seen a lot of people a bit annoyed with this lately as people are going back like 10+ pages from months ago and editing things that are (to most) rather insignificant ... and honestly stuff no one will want read again as discussions have moved on.
So, I don't remember who suggested it, but someone said that maybe there should be a tick in settings or something to not treat edits as new posts when you are logged in.
Or I thought maybe the dragon could be a different colour other than the new post colour (like maybe a lighter version, in between the new post and the old post colour) when someone edits a post.
I dunno. Does that even make sense?

It's also an issue when there's this nice fellow who edits a thread on page 3+ of the board and I check several times in confusion thinking there are new posts.. Would be amazing.

Or maybe the mods could give them a warning about "hey, people don't care you added a new show to your shows I like list from three months ago".

^ Yep. There shouldn't be a rule because that'd be limiting people way too much and it'd be really unfair. It'd just be better to not treat them as new posts.

I think the option to not treat edits as new posts is the way to go, as creating a rule regarding edits or giving someone a warning for editing a lot is too extreme.

I meant if this option wasn't implemented, it might be an idea, but it does seem a bit extreme, although it is annoying when you get bumped back to page 20 because someone just had to edit their post to include 1 new show they don't like.

Hehe, this was my idea smilie

This is a big problem over on the Skylanders boards lately. All these custom/villain/whatever 'ideas' topics mean people are always going back to their post on page 2 when the discussion is in fact on page 8.

While I'm here, I'd really like some kind of rule where you can't quote yourself multiple times (e.g. on each page of a discussion). It may be just me but I find 'quoting for the page' really irritating.

Wow,do you want even more examples of why this option needs to exist?

Some person we're familiar with editing a Video Gaming thread. All the way back in page 4.On a 5 month old post that is not the OP or anything informative.

Like, I think it's best just not to treat edits as new posts. In Rp's it's sometimes nice to edit something when you got ninja'd or the GM asks you to edit something, or the GM is editing the OP. Also, I think limiting edits isn't a good idea for "All Purpose" topics, especially for the OP.

I think that it's best not to treat a edit as a new post. I think that's the way to go.

^ Yep, this.
I know some people see edits as irritating and think there should be a rule against it ... but if the forum didn't treat them as new posts then it wouldn't be irritating, right?

And haha yelvy, so it was your idea. And what a great idea it was. cx

I would honestly like it when only the OP is treated as a new post. but eh.

I've added an option to make the dragon icon jump to new posts over new edits but it'll still fall back to jumping to an edit if there haven't been any new posts.

It doesn't solve necro-edits that we had lately but at least it solves a certain user editing halfway through a thread, thanks.

Thanks so much for the addition!

I did put this in the general suggestion topic last month, nice to see a full topic and addition for it. ^.^
