I think the Chronicler pointed out who the enemy was going to be. When a Dragon dies it's soul doesn't truly leave this world. "Hint" Malefor!!! If Spyro and Cynder made it out of the center of the World alive, I've no doubts that Malefor is still alive and Kicking!!!

True, Spyro has seen his fair share of ups and downs, but he's still pretty much a cash cow.
Sierra wouldn't loose money, considering that they haven't made any more money of of future games yet, but they woukd miss out on billions of dollars in game sales if they stopped making Spyro games. I'm sure he'll be restored to his former glory someday....
