he was dead in the first place. think about it, hes really old, said he never had a visiter in over 1,000 year, from DotD you see him for a short while in the begining telling spyro and cynder their elements, he disappeared in front of your eyes and ignitus was with him and hes dead too. no one even sent him a postcard.LoL

Since he wanted Ignitus to have a body and be a dragon instead of a spirit dragon, he had to sacrifise his body for him, so technically, the Chronicler is now a spirit.

I always thought that The Chronicler was some kind of a "ghost dragon" or something. And when Ignitus came to take his place, he disappears and "bonds with nature".
Maybe dragons who were really good as a mortal, becomes the next Chronicler when they die until someone else comes to take his/her place.
Yeah, that's my theory. Similar to what others had said..

XD Maggots ARE helpful in the medical world; they're used to take away dead tissue on patients whose wound/s arn't healing properly because of that.

The Chronicler did do the " binding with nature" Thing and the "chronicling power" (smilie) went to Ignitus and the past Chronicler had his page written in the Book.

This is what I think.

You need to be dead to be the chronicler. Since Ignitus died, the Chronicler disided his time was up so he past the job onto Ignitus's spirt. He went away to bind his spirt with nature and giving hope for the futer. All Chroincers turn blue when they have this job.
