If you knew there were surveillance cameras and under cover security officers in the store you were in, would you even think to steal from the store?

I'm not saying any of you are thieves, I'll explain in a little while why I asked this question.

I wouldn't steal even if there weren't, and there usually aren't in plenty of stores I go to occasionally.

Never. It's a stupid thing to do.

Hell no.

I never shoplifted but we have cameras everywhere in my store and I'm still pretty sure people steal from there anyway, so it's possible.

My reason for asking the question.... Mind you I don't understand the thoughts of a shop lifter... or a co-worker stealing from their employer.

Friday night a co-worker was caught stealing 2 cartons of cigarettes valued at $120.00, yes cigarettes are expensive here. Now mind you we were paid on Friday so it wasn't like he didn't have any money. He knew about the surveillance cameras, 4 of them are aimed at the registers and cigarette display case. He was fired and this theft from an employer will go on his permanent work history. I myself would never even think of stealing, if I don't have the money for something I need or want, I save the money until I have enough. What's more confusing to me, we are allowed to use store credit if we need something, we just pay for it on payday. I suppose I'll never understand why he did it, I just hope he learned a valuable lesson, the lesson being, don't steal.

Some people just randomly think they'll get away with things despite overwhelming odds. Really easy to see here in Brazil with the 'it's okay if you don't get caught' mentality to see people just stuff entire shelves into bags in front of a camera and still come out looking shady, or people who park others' cars who even steal food just because they can, not for starving or anything.

No, because I would get caught.

Nah. Even if I got away with it I would feel too much guilt and probably rat myself out
