How ****ed up was Alice in Wonderland? [CLOSED]

I was reading it last night, while flipping through Wicked (yes i can read 2 at a time aren't i special smilie )

I found some of the characters very disturbing to say the least...

A kid who's stalking a talking rabbit :/
An old woman with life sized playing card soldiers, who has a thing for decapitation :/
A drug addict caterpillar :/

Don't even get me started on the Cheshire Cat..

Is it just me or is this one ****ed up piece of literature?

Iirc at the time kids were made to read nursery rhymes and nearly nothing else outside of education,and Lewis Caroll just wanted to give them something to have fun with,so it's just crazy things happening in general.

Wicked tried too much to put sense into it though, to be honest. Wonderland runs on a different set of rules, trying to make it edgy and gritty takes out some of the fun.
