I understand very few people will be able to assist me with this, with it being a video game forum for a kids' game, but there are some adults on here so it's worth a shot.

I was driving today when my engine started making some really weird noises, and the gas pedal started shaking a lot. When I got to work hood (which did me absolutely no good because I have no idea what anything is), steam started pouring out of it and it smelled like something was burning. I looked as close as I could, but the only thing I could find that was wrong was this weird cracked tube thing.

(Excuse the dust and stuff, I live in the desert and my car is 8 years older than me)

Does anyone know what this is/what it does/how to fix it/my engine's problem ect.?

I don't know all that much about automotive mechanics, but I think that may be your air intake pipe. If the engine isn't getting enough or too much air, fuel isn't going to burn properly. Just take it to a mechanic.

A mechanic would have far more knowledge than I on this. And no problem.

Looks like part of the air intake. Not sure why that would make the engine steam, though, so there could be another problem somewhere.
