Deep Dive Gill Grunt is fun to play

So, we saw some people complaining about Gill Grunt getting yet another Reposed/version. But, I've played him and he is actually very fun to play! I'm not gonna do an in-depth review but I'm just gonna say I'm impressed with how he works. So far he is my favorite Superchargers gameplay-wise, plus the toy figure looks nice.

Are there any other people who particularly enjoy his gameplay?

I agree. I actually prefer his newer gameplay to his previous incarnation's. Though I'm still on the "Gill Grunt is overused" boat, and honestly, if they have to do reposes/reimagines every game... I think it's time to let the fish retire. But yeah, I like how they handled him.

Deep Dive Gill Grunt is way better looking and cooler than his S1 through S4 versions. Although his S4's Wow Pow is still deadly, his new set of attacks are more unique, even his water jetpack becomes his secondary mode.

I always used the "Gill Grunt is overused" thing as a joke. For me, it's not a heck of a problem having a Skylander with new figures each game. That's actually a good tradition, and I will complain more if he doesn't get a repose in a game than if he have. Yeah, you all can kill me now.

My only complaint on Deep Dive Gill Grunt is his Soul Gem seems to be hard to outright use effectively. Other than this everything else on him seems to work rather well.

I thought people reached that agreement during launch. But good or bad,it's still frickin' Gill Grunt.

Yep.
I don't care if it's good or bad, it's a character I already own which comes from the first game's Starter Pack.
That's why people is complaining, not the quality of the figure or the gameplay.
Though I personally find his new suit to be rather silly...

I won't spend more money for a Skylander I already have which could have been a brand new character (jellyfish, mermaid, other type of sea creature or fantastic creature).
End of the story.
I'm glad you are enjoying him. smilie

It would be a shame of they just ditched him now. He's been in every game. The only Skylander at that. As much as I don't real,y like him, I stil, think that at this point he needs to stay.

No,he doesn't, tradition doesn't mean necessity. Every time he shows up,another Water skylander loses a nice wow pow or redesign when he's been great to play since he was S1.

That's not really true. Since Trap Team and now Superchargers, we've not had the same number of characters per element released - Simply nixing Gill Grunt #47 does not necessarily equate to gaining another figure.

We don't have enough Gill Grunts until I can crash the 3DS version of Giants with nothing but Gill Grunts. :D

Yeah, I kind of agree. While I like Gill Grunt as a character, the devs' constant adoration for him to be reposed in every game lessens the chances of other original Water Skylanders to not get reposed. It's starting to get a little annoying.

Well,that's one positive.

But with a single water element space, if Gill Grunt takes it then NONE of the others get something. Sure, Eon's Elite Series 2 wanted to be different and lacks two elements,but they'd shoot themselves in the foot having grossly uneven numbers in the normal lineup.

Which is why I meant grossly. Minielements are fine,the problem is like, 2 Tech, 5 Magic,no Undead, something extremely stupid like that.

Hey, all I meant is that I like how at least one of the originals has been in every game. I'd at least like him to become a lightcore or something for each game. Sort of like how they brought back Wham-Shell and Warnado. Nothing new, but they are still present. As most of you have said, I greatly prefer the other water Skylanders and would like to see them reposed rather than him. In fact, I'm sick of him stealing the spotlight just as much of all of you. All I need is a reposed Zap smilie

I'm sick of characters beyond Giants not getting reposed much. OK...we got a new Fryno and Roller Brawl...what about all the other awesome cores from recent games? Seeing as Superchargers did not have any new cores, it'll be interesting what's done moving forwards...do they keep the new move sets for all the reposed Skylanders like Gill Grunt and Pop Fizz or revert back to the core versions? Seeing the direction of the franchise, part of me prefers that they announce a final game and make something that knocks the socks off the loyal fan base as a proper ending, though I know they're not going to do that because executives are betting that the animated Skylanders drums up a new fan base and renewed interest in the franchise to prolong it's longevity.

Stealth Elf seems to come with the VV package(ads,promo art,starter packs) and TFB is only somewhat behind,so it's been said enough.

Wait, wait, wait.

Let's leave Light and Dark out since they are rare and special Elements (though I would love if they could create Giants, Swappers, 2 more Trap Masters and more Cores for them as well it would probably only help my slumbering OCD)... How are the original Elements uneven?

Reposes and variant of any form don't count (so Minis, Legendaries, Dark, Lightcores, other lines of variants and revamped SuperChargers are excluded) and traps molds/villains don't as well.
Let consider the unique Skylanders (Minis are unique characters but, let's face it, they are just cuter, smaller and faster version of their big selves gameplay-wise).
So what do we have?

SA: 4 characters per Element;
Giants: 2 characters per Element, one of them being a Giant;
SWAP Force: 4 characters per Element, 2 of them being Swappers;
Trap Team: 4 characters per Element, 2 of them being Trap Masters;
SuperChargers: 1 character per Element, all being SuperChargers.

Sorry, don't see how they'd be unbalanced.

The different numbers between elements are who had reposes and who had none in TT.

And if you attempt to make a huge analogy with an entirely different subject,it stops making sense altogether.

Are we still trying to check if 'one repose that's gill grunt it's everyone else losing their chance' or just trying to win an argument?

Look, all the figures I mentioned don't provide absolutely nothing different in terms of gameplay.
Following this logic I might even add revamped SuperChargers but they are still balanced.

Two SuperChargers per Element.

I know I excluded a lot (including Light and Dark whose situation is rather particular) but really, they could stop reposing and creating variants and nothing would change.
Would you say the same with unique brand new Skylanders?

I think this entire game is a different beast. The reposes this game are *completely* different, gameplay wise, than their previous counterparts. If you're concerned about the name and physical similarities, let me ask this - if VV had said "No Reposes", said "Here's 8 (10) new characters, the SuperChargers!", then introduced the 8-character "Sibling Squad", featuring Stealth Elf's sister. Super Shot Quiet Elven Chick, Gill Grunt's cousin, Tidal Wave Bill Grunt, Pop Fizz' dad, Big Bubble Soda Splume, et al. Would you have been okay with that?

We got 18 new figures (+the two Nintendo exclusives), that each have 100% new gameplay mechanics, and we're still hung up on the fact that the name of the character has been used before. Because, let's be real, game-wise, each individual Skylander has virtually no bearing on the game's storyline or progression. They're all faceless stormtroopers that players use against the game.

But... back to the original complaint at hand, we saw with Trap Team, five elements had a reposed character, 3 did not. This goes to show that TPTB are not concerned with keeping things even. We could have, in theory, had seven elements with reposes, one without this game. Six with, two without. 5/3, like Trap Team. 4/4. Who knows. To say that Gill Grunt kicked another, less deserving, character from that spot is speculation at best. Heck, there's nothing stopping them from reposing TWO water elementals and one of every other element.

I don't agree with that view of characters.
I want my Skylanders to be as unique as possible in terms of design, gameplay and personality even if none of them directly impact the progression of the game.

To answer your question, I wouldn't have accepted the revamps if they simply changed their names.
If anything I would have felt even more offended.
Now, if they changed their names, catchphrases, backstories, personalities, some of their looks and their names they would have been truly brand new Skylanders and I would have bought them happily.

But sadly they didn't even tried making them look different (because they want us to immediately understand they are the overused characters we all know and love) and I already own all of them.
You might not agree and I fully understand you but this is how I see them.

I said it once and I'll say it again... If they simply have to repose older characters, I definitely hope they continue to do reimaginings over reposes, so that way they're at least giving us something new and not just slapping an extra upgrade on an old character. And since I don't see any of the Superchargers getting reposed anytime soon, new or old, I hope this means next game Gill Grunt takes a break.
