I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this.

With Marvel, it works very well, but I'm not sure it fits Star Wars at all.


What do you all think?

I think it should probably either be slowed down, or they could put money into a live action tv series instead. (Or give the money to Star Wars Rebels.)

I think this will end up like Call of duty, with a new thing rushed every year, making it not very well thought out, and it might ruin the franchise.

Disney will milk this. Too bad a new Star Wars movie won't be a big event anymore.

It's going to lose its luster. Rather than a new Star Wars being an event like this, it'll just be an inevitability. I knew they would've made more movies beyond Episode IX but one per year?

I thought it was iffy as is for them to already be selling and marketing toys of these characters and settings we know next to nothing about.

I have enough faith in Disney that they won't ruin this. They know their fanbase, they know that they don't want to ruin this. They're making smart decisions with Star Wars, ones very akin to how they're handling Marvel. They're casting either unknown or critically acclaimed actors outside of the Original Trilogy cast. They're also hiring established writers and directors that are not only great at their jobs, but Star Wars fans themselves.
Aside from that, I doubt they'll make any more main franchise trilogies for a long while, it'll probably be Anthology films such as Rogue One, and the unnamed Han Solo one. Maybe a film that takes place in the 30 years between the Original Trilogy and the Sequel Trilogy. Maybe a film that takes place within the Old Republic. They have plenty of ideas they could set into motion that isn't a mainline trilogy.

Don't forget Marvel, both the movies and the comics, and Maker (the company that owns several YouTube stars like PewDiePie and Markiplier).
And their partnership with EA is so deeply embedded that you might as well consider it, due to the new Battlefront series by DICE and the new "Uncharted-esque" Star Wars game by Visceral.

Even if the movies turn out great it's not going to be that big anymore. Once Force Awakens comes out there will likely never be another Star Wars movie again that gets as much hype as this one has been getting. And releasing new movies yearly is going to make that hype die down even further than it already will once Force Awakens finishes its run in theaters.

I'm with you here. This information has been out for quite a long time.

I think they should quit at number 9.

The original plan was 3 trilogys, past, present, future.

Any more than that will make it a total mess unless it's some sort of spin off movie that gives some details about individual characters.

We still haven't found out where the Jedi Knights and the Sith started.
