Wait...Jehova's Witnesses don't have birthdays? So you guys were never born? You should advertize that in the pamphlets you're always handing out! I thought you just didn't like to celebrate stuff.

I don't have ANY Jehovah's Witness friends, and for good reason! If you're just a casual Jovi, then you're fine, though.

I never knew that even birthdays weren't celebrated by Jehovah Witness, I never really understood their beliefs either.

Why not? Birthdays too? That's surprising.

According to google, they have a separate excuse for every holiday, as well as birthdays in general, about how each of them tie back into some kind of pagan tradition.

I can understand this attitude toward most holidays (since since christians really did steal pretty much all of their holidays from other cultures), but why the hell do they care that pagans used to celebrate birthdays? The idea of celebrating birthdays seems like something that transcends cultural traditions. I imagine many cultures adopted the practice independent of one another.

He wants to know what they're like. Instead of bashing his religion, you can actually tell him what it's like to celebrate holidays.

They really aren't that great. Christmas gets worse as you grow up. You wake up knowing what you're getting and pretending to be shocked. Halloween is ok when with friends, but if you're alone, you're stuck handing out candy to little children the whole night. New Years is literally nothing. At least from my perspective, it's just a regular day. Sure the fireworks are kinda nice, even though you know they are illegal.

I'd have given him some insight, but the problem is I don't celebrate holidays either. Not because of religious reasons, of course, but because I have no social life

the only jehovahs witness i knew turned out to be a lesbian that tried to get into my 12 year old socially awkward pants
good times

anyway on the topic, its kinda difficult to explain but when you are younger theres this really strong sense of wonder associated with holidays and stuff, its kinda magical.

we have birthdays but we just don't celebrate them like eat cake and stuff. but I get stuff although the year though so its okay. my dad is super religious and goes to the kingdom hall all the time but my mum and my sister and me are jw's but we haven't been to the kingdom hall in about 3 years and my mum is super lax on most things like violent movies and such. the reason we don't celebrate birthdays because I was told by the elders that satan the devil sucks your soul out through the candels and releases his demons through them too.

So true, that's happened to me at least 4 times already.

I've never seen demons come out of birthday candles before, but they do cover the cake in melted wax and cause children to spit all over the icing while blowing them out. Pretty gross tradition, all things considered.
