During with the Skymiibo reveal at E3, TTD found out that the SSC part wasn't removed from the Japan version of the Direct. It got me thinking, how popular and successful was Skylanders in Japan? Does anyone know? It seems like they'd love it.

Yo-Kai Watch probably kicked Skylanders right out of the ratings once it showed up, even if it was sucessful :I It's real hard to compete with a handheld title for kids there, iirc.

I can't find any evidence to even suggest that it was released there. There are amazon listings for the game in Japan but it seems that they are only importing the English version. I am going to Japan next year so I can report back but it'll be a while so don't expect to hear anything back from me anytime soon. Amiibo seem to be doing great over there so I don't see why skylanders can't replicate the same success.

Oh yeah, sorry, I was referring to SuperChargers. I do like the look of the packaging, I've always had a soft spot for Japanese products!

Japan consumers tend to not be as fond of properties created outside of Japan. There are exceptions, but in general they don't go for those things as much. I doubt it did all that well over there. It's hard to introduce a major property there without the benefit of a domestic publisher pushing it. They are extremely nationalistic on the things they buy. Microsoft has had a heck of a time cracking that egg and they have done some major things.

As an owner of Spyro's Adventure (Japanese), I know a few things. First of all, SSA was not very popular. I go to a moderately sized Japnese neighborhood and live there for a good amount of the summer. Not once have I seen any mention of Skylanders with my friends over there smilie Also, they got their own Toys to life franchise, a Kamen Rider one. I'm kinda dissapointed in that.

Just found out about it.

Looks like a rather bland copy to be fair but I definitely don't know enough to judge.

I don't know if the problem is the Toys-to-Life genre being not popular (not counting Amiibo and that Kamen Rider), or Japaneses don't like things from other countries (explain Disney Infinity lack of success too). But no, Skylanders is not popular in Japan. I heard that SuperChargers will be the second game to arrive in Japan. Maybe because of DK and Bowser...

Also, if you want images, darkSpyro has a Japanese Packs page.

A good way to get a gauge on Skylanders in Japan is to check Yahoo Japan auctions.

http://auctions.search.yahoo.c...commerce&mode=1

43 listings for an anime series means it's obscure and fairly unpopular, so I would assume hold true for a video game series too. I should get my contact in Japan to get me a used disc as I'm very curious to hear the dubbing of the games in other languages, especially ones I can understand many words in like Japanese.
