Heck, in Bandit Train, I was expecting a unique character to fight at the end (maybe an eel, or another species that wasn't used before), but all we got, was another huge purple Brawlrus copy.

Bomb Brawls, Rumble Brawls, Captain Bristlestache, and Blubberbeard. Know what they all have in common? They are all walruses AND they share TFB's character models of Brawlrus and Brawl & Chain from Trap Team.

Blubberbeard is also in the Amiibolander comic,
seems like he was making a habit out of attacking the Academy.

I really hated Brawlrus and didn't like any of these characters. (I don't like walruses in general)

I haven't noticed the number of walrus enemies until now. They could have used Squidbrutes or Seadogs from Spyro's Adventure and Giants 3DS.
To be honest, I was expecting Captain Frightbeard to be the boss of the bandit train since every pirate character has a similar voice. |

I'm fairly fine with it, though I wish Blubberbeard was a different species. The worst they could've done would be to make every NPC a walrus like how every NPC was a toad in Paper Mario: Sticker Star

I didn't really have an issue with walruses per se. I mean, it'd be hypocritical to complain about 2-3 walrus enemies per game and gloss over all those Trolls, Cyclopses, Drow, Spell Punks et cetera. Far worse offenders. (Also, I like Bomb Brawls. They have a cool attack pattern, one that would have made little sense on a Bomb Shell.)
I would have moved that Bristlestache guy to the Train and got rid of that stupid purple recolor altogether, though. Battlebrawl didn't really need that sorry excuse for a "boss", and the Train only needed it because without some head honcho to run the operation the whole thing would have felt even more like random filler. |

But Trolls,Cyclopses, etc are all mainstream species. It's like complaining about too many humans in an Earth setting. Walruses didn't even get an entry on Book of Elements to warrant acting like they're the new Mabu.

Where would that leave the walruses, though? Too many dogs? I get you see them as "mainstream" because they've been there since the very beginning; doesn't mean the devs have to keep the regulars limited to those few categories. And it's not like it's a whole new concept being introduced well into the series; pirates have always been around, it's just that the TT ones are the first ones to stick around for the sequel. Quote:
I've never had the chance to read one of those, so please bear with me if I don't make any sense- where/why would they be featured? The Water book was released well before TT. Incidentally, why should a companion book have the final say on the matter? Quote:
Two (short) levels in a 13-level game does not make them anywhere near Mabu tier. They were hardly the star of the show in TT too, both console and 3DS. I'd put them on the same tier as the Whamshell lookalikes- it does feel a tad bit jarring there's more of them around now, but it's not like it contradicts any existing lore. (Replace them w/ the squirrel dudes if you want a strictly post-SA example.) |

The books, not just the Elements ones, usually explain the species related to the elements. Trolls and Drow for life and tech, etc etc. They're common species and villains, rising in numbers with The Darkness' influence.
The crab people aren't Wham-Shell lookalikes - they're on Motleyville(it's on the dialogue, probably first instance of an existing region inside another in two different games),they live there if Shellshock is any indication. Pirates in other games were the Henchmen and Drow, it's not exclusive to walruses.

(I realize I've gone off on a tangent with this walrus business, so please feel free to gloss over my post- it's not particularly interesting)
Quote: Bifrost
Whamshell, Shellshock, the Sheep Wreck guy... it's all crabs to me, haha. They're not the ones from the Skylander's backstory, that much is clear, but I'd wager VV did use his design/model as a starting point. Quote:
Ridepocalypse looks like it's hosted in Motleyville to me, although I didn't really pay attention to the dialogue. Is that what you're talking about, or am I completely off? Quote:
(Villain) pirates in the series have been a lot of things is the point I was making. Drow, Seadogs, Squidfaces, Greebles, Crows et al.; most have filled that role for one game only, though (3DS games have Seadogs everywhere, but that's just because N-Space was all about recycling). Walruses have been in console TT and SC both, which could be hinting towards them being promoted to the default pirate race. I mean, realistically it may just have been time issues on VV's part, but the end result's still the same. edit: or were you referring to the Henchmen and Drow in SC specifically? Would be some weird wording, though. If so, yeah, the anemones are in the same situation and it was a pity the turtles didn't make it in this time around. The Drow have been pirates already, but they don't quite fit the stereotype- they've been more of an "invading forces" kind of enemy post-SA. |

Shellshock or one of the NPC crabs says Battlebrawl Island is the best arena on this side of Motleyville,or something along those lines, so it's very close or an actual building there.

Doubt the map screen is an actual map. Vault of the Ancients needs to be pretty far away from everything if it has so many valuables, not right next to Monstrous Isles and Rideopocalypse which are full of shady folk.

I see no reason not to take the map as canon. It's likely not 1:1 and it's likely the islands are placed like that for convenience's sake, but the lack of anything saying otherwise does suggest each level takes place on a different island, as has always(?) been the case. Just a blatant case of asset recycling, in all likelihood. |
