Does Gnarly Barkley Work in Skylanders SWAP Force?

I bought a Gnarley smilie Mini as part of my best friend's Christmas gift pool, but I just realised something: he only owns Skylanders SWAP Force, meaning the figure might not work in his game. My intent was for him to use the figure as a Sidekick in his game, but the packaging states that it only works in Trap Team. Would he still work as a sidekick in SWAP Force, showing up as regular smilie, or would he simply not work at all? Thanks in advance. smilie
