Wii vs Wii U racing

I bought my grandson the dark edition for the Wii U for Christmas, and I was planning on buying him the Wii version also so we could race each other. But now I am wondering if I need to buy the Wii version. Is there a big difference between the Wii and Wii U racing parts? Besides getting bowser and stealth elf, is there a reason to buy the Wii version (ie: is it better, more tracks, etc)?

Wii has more tracks for sure, but of course poorer graphics. Some people also say that the gameplay is a bit better in Racing.

The Wii version is a racing only game, and has more tracks and a variety of challenges. Of course the graphics are not as good, and the vehicles also don't drive exactly the same way. The mods are also in-game and independent to the console ones. Some are obtained by leveling the vehicles.
