I haven't given much thought to collecting variant Skylanders previously, but this year I've made a pretty big, collection-altering decision: if I like a variant more than its traditional counterpart, then I collect the variant instead of the original. If it's a tie, I choose either one of the two. This means that a good chunk of my SuperChargers and Vehicles will be differently-coloured (Is it wrong to call them Shinylanders, or is that too much of a Pokémon reference? )

So which variants do you most want to collect (or have you already collected)? Here's my wishlist for this series, which is subject to change/expansion:

SuperChargers
Missile Tow Dive-Clops - I just got the name! In my country, missile is pronounced (miss-EYE-ul), so the pun was lost in translation...
Eggcited Thrillipede - I prefer his colour scheme to the standard version (same reason for Missile Tow )
☆Frightful Fiesta - I found him less creepy than regular

I've also decided to get some extra Vehicles for my friend to use when we race. I asked him which element he preferred from each terrain type, and he picked Life, Tech and Magic. I then chose to collect these three variant Vehicles as spares, plus a SuperCharger for him to use:

Other
Legendary Bone Bash Roller Brawl - My friend's favourite character from SWAP Force
Nitro Stealth Stinger - A really good Vehicle for Sky races
Power Blue Gold Rusher - I may get Shield Striker for him to use instead
Nitro Soda Skimmer - With this, he's sure to have a "magical" time in Sea races (I apologise...)

I'm getting them all, and the ones that don't have a match (e.g. Egg cited thrillipede doesn't have a Egged Buzz wing) I'll make a custom to match.

and his vehicle. Only the PS4 and Wii U dark editions were released in my country. The only way for me to get him would be Ebay or maybe Amazon but I'm not willing to pay thrice the price of a regular Skylander + shipping to get him.
I wanted to get him Day 1 but my store didn't have him and I'm still not sure if he was/will be released in my country so I picked instead. I might still pick him up if I find him but I usually never get two figures of the same character.

Variants I might get :
Missile Tow . This one is a big ''maybe''. I have very mixed feeling about Dive-Clops. I kinda like his design but I'm really not interested with his gameplay.

Whatever comes around, only 1 version per lander. Plus all popfizzes

Well, I've already got Steel Plated Smash Hit and the Legendaries of Jet-Vac, Astroblast, and Sun Runner. I'm thinking of getting the Dark Wii Starter for Christmas, so there'll be those figures too.

I'm trying to hunt down every one, but my top ones are Missile Tow , Birthday Bash , and if there is a Power Blue , I will literally travel across the world just to get one. I'm not even joking.

Well, seeing as Trap Team had NO Walmart exclusives, I have been thinking that Activision has kind of dropped Walmart. This could also explain their terrible stock. They almost have not a single trace of Superchargers ever happening.

Walmart is pretty well known for turning the screws on vendors, and with three toys to life games plus Amiibos elbowing each other for shelf space, Walmart likely played hardball. Not that I blame them really, shelf space is valuable - but, I have a feeling Activision thinks they are above competing for it since they have been around the longest and refuses to pay for the space like the newer guys are. Not to mention the last several "Walmart exclusive" Skylanders (the Buddy Packs) didn't really move that well.

Not yet. I think it's going to be either a Gamestop or Best Buy variant.

Toys R Us has Legendaries, Target has Nitros, while Gamestop and Best Buy have no specific kind of variant. I'm leaning towards more Best Buy because their main color is blue and their called "Power Blue".

I'll get eggcited probably.

I was a "collect them all" guy, but after the platform exclusivity, side swipe about collectors in game, the fact that the variants are so numerous in nature and because of the fact that the variants include content that won't be in future games has now curbed me to only character variants this game and none moving forward.

Legendary Astroblast - He's the very first Legendary Light Skylander to ever existed
Dark Hammer Slam Bowser - He looks way more evil than his normal version (especially going up against Kaos)
Power Blue Splat - Blue is one of my favorite colors (although I like her original color schemes, too)
Legendary Bone Bash Roller Brawl - Her health is higher than her original's (although I like the original one)
Frightful Fiesta - Halloween is my most favorite holiday, and his health is higher than his original's (despite liking his original version)

Vehicles:
Legendary Sun Runner - Looks better than the original one
Dark Clown Cruiser - Its mods are black and silver, two of my most favorite colors
Dark Sea Shadow - Better than the original Sea Shadow and the very first Dark figure of the Dark element
Power Blue Splatter Splasher - Nicer in blue than just pink/purple

Already got the variants for Fiesta and Smash Hit, as well Legendary Jet Vac and Astro Blast

Easter Thrillipede
Maybe try to get them all except the Nintendo exclusives.
Haven't seen the High Volt variant in the stores.
If I see them, I'll get them. If not, no big deal.
