Would you buy proper holiday variants?

Exactly as the topic says, but what I mean by proper is... okay I do like some of the holiday variants, such as Springtime Trigger Happy or Jolly Bumbleblast, but it goes without saying, the figure variants throughout the series has been generally lazy. Other than lightcores in Giants and Swap Force, the variants have just been a different color palette. Same figure and everything.

So since Superchargers is the first of the four console sequels to not have Series 2 characters, I really think this would be the best one to try it. I would love holiday variants that acted as their own alternate costume, almost acting as a Series 2. A Hallows' Eve Hex with a new figure and a special wow pow that matches the holiday? I know, I know, we will never get proper holiday variants, but one can dream. How open would you be to getting these if they did one day come out?

Sounds like an interesting idea. If executed properly, it could become a very popular subline of figures, which would only serve to create a lot of demand during Christmastime, Halloween, etc. Of course, it would also attract the attention of resellers, but that's an inevitability many of us have come to accept.

It's funny, because I bought my very first holiday variant mere hours ago ( smilie ), and this is the first new thread I've found since then! smilie

Hah, nice! Frightful Fiesta is one of the only holiday variants I probably won't get, as I prefer his normal version, but both are extremely cool. Nonetheless, I've always wanted variants to be completely different alternate costumes, and I think holiday variants would be the best way of doing that, especially with the holiday variant exclusive wow pow idea. Sometimes you have to wonder why things like this don't exist, because they would clearly sell more. Hallows' Eve Hex? People loved that, and she was pretty much just a picture and a floating avatar in a mobile game... imagine the sales if that actually existed as a figure.

You kinda answered your own question with not buying Frightful Fiesta.

I think she means if series 2+ figures were released with themes such as holidays, instead of holiday variants just being a recolour as they are now. For example, if for Skylanders 6 they released a 'Melbourne Cup' themed Trail Blazer (super obscure holiday, I know, but it was the first one that popped into my head. They'd actually do something like Christmas instead), called, say, "Nation-Stopping Trail Blazer".

Nation-Stopping Trail Blazer would be like a series two counterpart, with new pose and wow-pow. (The wow-pow could be firing whatever hat he's wearing - or his helmet - at the nearest foe at the end of his charge attack. Yes I'm aware this example will make no sense to non-Aussies). But he would also be like a holiday variant, with alternate pallet and goofy hat attached.

So CelesteInk's proposed holiday variants have a lot more to offer than current ones like Frightful Fiesta.

Personally, I love the idea of themed Series 2s and would totally buy them if they existed! As it is, I generally only get one of either the original or variant, usually whichever I like the look of best. But if they had their own wow-pow I would be so tempted to get both.

The problem with that tho is if people are unwilling to buy a figure based on the aesthetic it's quite difficult to convince them to make all the attacks look more festive.

It would definitely make variants less cheap and more valuable and interesting but, to answer your question, no I would still not buy them.

Frankly I think they should give the option to fully customize your characters in-game by choosing the colors, the hats, the trinkets and if you want your aesthetic changes after upgrades to be shown or not.
That of course wouldn't alter the actual stats so you would still have to buy a special variant if you wanted both a different figure and different stats.

And of course you could also alter the variant's colors.
Yes, in my opinion changing the color palette definitely isn't enough to make variants valuable but adding physical extras, changing the pose and so on would absolutely help.

But even then I always prefer the original color schemes as I think they are the ones the devs worked the most on and put their biggest efforts in.
All the variants released so far, even the objectively cool looking ones, are reduced to bad copies of the originals, in my eyes.

If anything, Holiday variants should be alt costume DLC.

Hey is there anything you want me to bring for the rest of the week and if so it’s so cool that you can do something and just do it like that

Yep, that would work perfectly as well!

Maybe they could even provide you a small discount if you wanted to buy variant figures.

Or they they should make holiday expansion packs containing one holiday-themed level, one holiday-themed new character (no, not a recolor, but a character that is actually inspired by the holiday, such as a reindeer skylander or something), and one holiday variant.

What variants do you find cool?

But honestly, I love variants. A lot of the time I pick them over the original because I just really like them. While SSC takes them a bit to high, I think TT was perfect.

Honestly, I wouldn't want something like Hallows' Eve Hex to be DLC or unlockable on Hex's figure. Have you guys actually seen that costume on the mobile game? It could make a really, really impressive looking figure. And if you had a *good* wow pow for it, say an ability to plant a cauldron, and if you charge skulls near it, they go into that instead and do something... well, that would certainly help bring up the value.

There aren't many characters I'd pay over $20 though, but even though I already have Lightcore and S2 Hex, I'd pay a lot for a Hallows' Eve one, based on her appearance in that mobile game. I think as far as a Christmas one goes, it would probably have to be pretty unique... otherwise it would just turn out looking like Jolly Bumbleblast, a color swap.

@Drek, I do however like the idea that you could buy the fancy new reposed holiday variant with an all new costume as a figure, or you could just pay less for the single costume as DLC. Having said this though, how would that work? You get the figure, it's at level 1, has it's holiday wow pow, etc. Would the DLC version keep your figure at its level, and not have a new wow pow?

Well for example I like Dark Hammer Slam Bowser.
He's really cool.

Oh and Echanted Star Strike!

Regarding the variants you would basically have a DLC (which would cost 2 or 3$ I guess) version which could be downloaded inside you toy and accessed via a customization screen.
It would simply be an extra skin for your Skylander which would also alter the attacks' color and effects and would also come with extra accessories.

They could even make the skin mixable with other features so that you could technically have a regular Hex with the Hallows' Eve hat on.
Only aesthetic changes though.

Then you could buy a physical new toy of her Halloween version, completed with new animations, tweaked powers and stats and an all new pose.
You could also get a small discount if you previously bought her skin for you regular Hex.
Maybe you could take your character with you, scan it on the store's Portal so that you could prove you effectively bought the DLC and they would give you the variant for, say, 7$ instead of 10.

Sounds complicated, I don't oppose it, as long as we would get these cool variants. I love some of the variants too, such as Springtime Trigger Happy (because <3 pink) but a lot of the time, I really wish these were more than just color swaps. Jolly Bumbleblast even, I really like, he's my only Bumbleblast, but ugh... if his figure at least had a Santa hat on! Most of the variants are really just shameless laziness.
