I've noticed that the paint jobs on the Superchargers figures are significantly worse than Trap Team. Spitfire and Supershot Stealth Elf look good, but that's about it. It's a chore for me to buy any character now, because I have to inspect each figure to make sure I actually get a decent looking one. It's ridiculous.

Every Bowser I've seen has a terrible paint job, except the one I bought. Also, has anyone else noticed how every Legendary Racing Pack's figures have terrible pain jobs. I went through four boxes, and I only found one decent one.
EDIT: I've also seen easily 100+ DDGG racing packs, and I've literally only found one with non derp eyes (which is the one I bought).

Same here, unfortunately it takes on average going through 15 - 20 of the same figure to find an okayish to decent paint job, not good, just decent.

You'd think they'd be better with less characters.
Took me 20min today sorting through Smash Hits & High Volts to find just DECENTLY good ones that were not full of white residue. And yes on top of that, very spotty paint. These are NOT worth the price they are selling for. Nowhere close. They should be $10.99 tops. Vehicles $12.99 tops. Glad I had a $30 credit at TRU otherwise forget it. |

All my figures look good and I did not have to inspect them beside Frightful Fiesta. The only one with a semi-bad paint is Hammer Slam Bowser, in the back at the bottom of his back.

Dude, the paint affects production cost so little, I'm not even going to LIST the problems with your logic that they ought to be marked down 2-3 dollars because you're not satisfied with the paint job... I see TWO tiny purple specks on my Stormblade where they shouldn't be, they're the size of NEEDLEPOINTS, and they're both very hard to notice... I didn't even HAVE to look... My Point: be a little less finicky, because I never notice defects in my products, and I don't seek out perfect ones either, unless you can give us precise measurements and counts, don't tell us how "huge" that one spot was, or how there were "tons" of paint spots, because you seem to be blowing things out of proportion... A lot of bug eyed people this time, but I feel that's more an issue with their sculpting than their paint, because they clearly ACTUALLY ARE bug eyed when you get your hands on one...

I disagree. I always have to look thru a ton of figures to get a decent paint job. This has been a major problem for years with this franchise

I'm really scared about how Nightfall's paint apps will look, since her new batch is probably going to be rushed to make up for lost time. She could end up being the worst of them all.
Such a cool looking character deserves better than to have derpy off-center pupils and random paint globs all over her face...

My only bad one is hammer slam bowser and dive Clops. Hammer slam bowser his back is all messed up and dive Clopses element symbol on the engine is halfway printed. It justs stops and goes off the edge!!! Need to make a custom colored dive Clops and buy a new decent one to replace.

Legendary Sun Runner is the worst painted figure I have ever seen. We have bought all non-chase figures from all of the games and this figure takes the cake. Normally, I will find mostly okay paint jobs, with the occasional excellent paint job and the occasional awful paint job. For the Legendary Sun Runner, I only found one decent paint job and the rest were all horrible.

Jumping in to add my experience, which is the same. Garbage paint jobs.
Infinity may be the worst game-wise in the Toys to Life category, but the figure quality is the best.

Problem paint job I'd subjective though. Never a had problem with any of the ones we've gotten, bUT I'm sure some of the paint jobs would drive others nuts. That includes no problematic paint jobs with superchargers.

I did have some problems finding an acceptable Stormblade today, but it wasn't really that bad.
It's just that I'm really nitpicky when it comes to figure's quality. To the point I bought a perfectly painted Dive-Clops only to find out the Water symbol on his engine was not centered with the round part it is on. ![]() Vehicles have an amazing quality and characters are still very detailed and well painted. And that's what makes them better than Infinity figures. It's easy to make less mistakes when a lot of your figures have little to no shadings, are less detailed and generally look bland. Skylanders have an outstanding level of small details so it's rather normal if they aren't exactly perfect. What annoys me more is that certain characters look quite cheap this year... I sincerely can't stand Smash Hit's figure form... Hope it will change when I'll have it in hand.

The only character where I even noticed the paint job for was High Volt. I got one that looks a little funky, but it doesn't actually bother me. I never think to inspect them before buying. In all my years playing this game, I was never in a position where someone told me my Skylanders were painted poorly.

I had to check through storm blades a little but really I only ever look through a couple figures just to make sure there's no major defects. More then that is a bit picky.
I think it's cool that there's a little paint job variation between figures. Makes them more real. Skylanders has some of the most detailed figures of the toys to life games. You can't complain too much for paint imperfections when your comparing them to incredibly bland and lifeless Disney infinite figures, or worse...Lego dimensions lol . Amiibo barely have any detail iether, but thats mostly coz Nintendo charscters are generally pretty smooth and dull in their detail with a max of like 5 colours. This stuff happens in regular action figure toy lines all the time. I remember seeing soo many googley eyed toy story woody toys when I was a kid lol

This has nothing to do with paint vs production costs. These are overpriced regardless. Even with good paint they should be cheaper. But that's just the nature of things now in the current market. These figures have no articulation at all remember. At the very least at these prices they can do a decent paint job. They should at least get that done correctly. Less finicky? If you are happy with 9 outta 10 Smash Hits & High Volts covered in white-gluey residue and sloppy paint....enjoy spending your money on that. I'd rather be patient and put my money towards a good product. If I didn't find good ones, I would have left the store without them. Just because YOU have found good ones, that does not mean that has been the case for everyone. |

If it's so sloppy, then just paint over it yourself, because if you're willing to call it sloppy, then you CLEARLY know how to do better.. I didn't FIND that Stormblade, or ANY of my characters, because I didn't LOOK for them, I NEVER DO... I just grab the first one i see off the shelf. P.S. The only bad paint job I've gotten was on my Legendary Sun Runner, which has ONE streak of gold paint where it should be navy... It's somewhat obvious, but i still wouldn't say it's "covered" in it. That's also the only one I had held in reserve for me by the way... I don't believe they had it on their shelves (because said shelves were overflowing with stock, and I looked at the stock again that day, and explicitly remember something else on its rack) It was the second time in 3 days I made the halfhour trip made much longer because driver didn't want to let us out of the carpool lane... I was tired, excited to FINALLY get my hands on a sky pack, and if I really care enough, I believe I could ask my father to paint over it (he restores bikes for a hobby, and draws blueprints and takes measurements for a living he's got the precision, PROBABLY the equipment to paint it... and he DEFINITELY knows his shades well enough to know what paint to use...) Literally, my Stormblade had but two tiny specs of purple paint where hey shouldn't be, that you'd literally need a magnifying glass for them to be visible without removing them from their packaging... Which is why I want people to QUANTIFY what they mean by bad paint job (how many splotches were there?, how many square milimeters large were they?), not just QUALIFY it with subjective terms... Like "many" or "tons" or "covered in" I actually remember hearing that NFC chips and readers are somewhat expensive in my BT class the other day... And I believe the plastic is high quality, even if they make a lot of mistakes on the paint... And so are the molds themselves... (High quality, I mean) So there is a LOT of reasons, besides the lousy paint jobs and lack of articulation (which some vehicles have and the others don't need [Do I REALLY need moving parts on a jet or UFO? If I were a kid playing with toy jets, would I use the moving parts during play, or would such a feature end up being superfluous? Same with a speedboat, hovercraft, or submarine, really]) to justify the price: raw materials, sculpts, the cost of NFC technology... And the vehicles are DEFINITELY made of sturdy plastic, i get the feeling that my Sky Slicer is a hunk of nearly solid plastic of decent quality... It's got that weight AND feel to it... I'm not surprised at all that they cost 15$, they either articulate, or they're extremely well made, either way, they're worth the price....

One of my friends went through all six of the legendary sky packs over at TRU this weekend, noting that each one's paint job was so bad they almost decided not to get any. They chose the "least" horrible one, but it looks like someone scaled back in Quality Control.

I noticed a drop in quality at launch. It was really bad the other day when I picked up the Ganondorf amiibo the other day and it is so clean and detailed, even in the smallest places. So theres really no excuse.

Amiibos in general have some really awesome paint details. Ganondorf is a highlight of great detail, and actually has a good pose for a figure (doesn't need supports). |

Amiibos definitely have a better quality than Infinity figures, even than Skylanders in certain cases from what I've seen
But transparent supports and sometimes "bland" designs (it's no one's fault if Mr. Game and Watch is just a black 2-D stickman after all but his figure can't be that amazing) really lower the overall quality of the figures at least for me. On of their problems might be the fact they have very different styles. You have a realistic humanoid figure such as Link, a more cartoony one like Mario and then something even simplier, like Kirby or Yoshi. Infinity characters have all been tweaked a bit to fit the game even if they come from very different franchises (Pirates of the Caribbeans and Inside Out, for example). Amiibos don't have a general look of "we are all part of the same something", they just seem like random Nintendo statues. And LEGO's... Well... Let's say the mini-figures are not the best part of Dimensions at least design wise... That's why I still think Skylanders is the best series toy-wise. Creative, original and really diverse and unique characters which all feel like they belong to a same universe even if some couldn't look more different, like Pop Thorn and Astroblast for example.

Amiibo has better paint apps, but the sculpts are generally disappointing (in the Super Smash bros line of amiibos at least), not to mention those ugly stands. The problem is that they took designs and poses from Super Smash Bros that weren't originally intended to be used for figures. If they'd come up with new poses and a simpler, more unified aesthetic then they'd have turned out better.
Disney Infinity has overall the best quality. I've almost never had trouble getting good ones (except for the Toy Story playset figures...those had awful paint apps).
