When did they remove nicknames?

So the other day I was going through the tedious process of adding all my old skylanders to my collection in superchargers when I realized nicknames were not showing up. I checked the options screen to see if there was a feature to turn on/off and can't find anything. Did the powers that be actually remove the ability to create our own names for the characters? If so when did this happen?

If there's still a way to nickname your characters and I'm just missing it I would love for someone to point me in the right direction.

Nope. Nicknames were completely removed for a reason we do not know.

Nicknames were removed in SuperChargers.

I guess so that a kid with an inappropriately named Skylander goes online, it isn't shown? I dunno, I would think there would be an easy way around not showing the nicknames if thats the problem, especially considering if you bring someone elses Skylander to your game, it asks you if you want to "show nicknames"? I dunno why really, even though I didn't use the featuere much, it's disappointing

I guess that means if online comes back in future games, nicknames will be gone for good :/

I shouldv'e known online would come with it's problems.

I really enjoyed nicknaming my Skylanders. That's how we express our individuality within the game by giving them cute, funny and/or clever nicknames. Can't believe Activision remove that feature.

I doubt it's because of online play, since you could hear far worse in voice chat than you could ever see on a Skylander name. It's probably because people complained about it in general. I could sell a bunch of Skylanders named horrible things on eBay and some parent wouldn't know why the figures all had sexual words or curses popping up with them. Considering that Gamestop and other stores sell secondhand Skylanders directly now, this is definitely something some parent would have complained about already - probably often.

Simple Solution: Skylanders aren't renamed during Online Play. Any Skylander renamed will be reverted ONLY for online play.

Well, at least if you keep track of a small collection like me you can still at least write down the silly nicknames in case future games ever put the option back. Instant Spitfire will still be Mozzarella to me though, even if he isn't going to make it to Sky 6.

Nicknames arnt really important anyway. I don't believe amiibos or any of the other franchises have nicknames iether. Unless you have half a dozen of the exact same figure you can't differentiate between , there's no real functional value.
Skylanders already have names , they arnt species names like Pokemon. Jet-vac is jet-vac , there's no real point to calling him "Steve" besides the tiny bit of amusement.

SA & Giants are the best skylanders games. I miss the old style.

Well, I like amusement. I don't CALL them those names(except Mozzarella out of convenience), but I liked having a quick way to tell my Hexes apart if I wasn't looking while switching; it's not essential to enjoy, but it was cute and had its uses nonetheless.

Ah yeah, you're right.
It might be a hassle, but couldn't GameStop reset the figures? Not that they care enough about pre-owned Skylanders to do that anyways

Amiibos have to be given a Nickname to even be used in same games.

I got a dark wash buckler from Gamestop once pre-owned and it wasn't reset. It was at level 20, had 64,000 coins, and was fully upgraded. I reset it anyway.

As far as I know they do reset all skylanders they get (if you look online it says that after they get them in a trade-in the send them to be reset and cleaned and then they are sent to stores (tho I don't think this happens 100% of the time) but its what they say on the site.

Yeah, but that's BS. I once got a standard Wash Buckler form gamestop, completely maxed out, and it was super dirty. (Luckily a damp cloth fixed it, but still)
