Who thinks Bowser and Donkey Kong being playable is a uneggscellent idea? I'm a big fan of them as characters, but them being Skylanders is unneeded.

Your very new here. Most people like them but think they were handled horribly.

I love them and think they were handled awesomely. Their homage-inspired move sets are awesome. Their animations and overall portrayal are awesome. The way they combine Skylander and Amiibo technology is awesome. And really they are just dang fun to play as. Everything about them is really well crafted.
The only "poor handling" I can think of is the fact that they are Nintendo exclusive. But even then, if you don't own a Nintendo system, nothing is stopping you from simply pretending they don't exist.

The "ostrich in the sand" is a poor defense considering that this franchise made it's way by saying "buy once-play anywhere." I'm forced to do that...along with quite a few other things. The balance must be restored if there's to be hope in Skylands. |

Yes, the games are no longer "buy once play anywhere". That aspect of Skylanders is gone, especially if exclusives become popular. But at least they were up front about it. They never said you could play DK or Bowser in every version. They were quite explicit to the contrary.

Not disputing that. Breaching the franchise's core might net some interesting long term effects, but I guess for now they're jumping on the Amiibo bandwagon. Let's see where this ends up. They may have thrown out the baby with the bath water. We'll see. |

Eh, I personally feel they should of gone with more popular 3rd party characters like Rayman and Shovel Knight, instead of making exclusives for 1/3rd of the consoles the games is on.
Really unfair to shaft the rest of the fan base to give Nintendo the "definitive" version of SuperChargers. I may be a Wii U user, but i'd take two crossover figures everyone can use over two that only a handful can.

I'm really just stick of Nintendo fanbois acting like it's "no big deal" yet not faced with the same issue. "It's okay they broke a core rule of the franchise.....it doesn't effect me".
Why didn't they just go with Sega characters everyone could play is the big question. This is where it was poorly handled. "We don't care nearly as much about a chunk of the fan base" is what the main message is.

Glad heroic challenges are gone. Imagine doing 165 per skylander. That's 27225 challenges. No thank you. |

Well, the only reason exclusives don't affect me is because I favor no specific console. If they were to announce an Xbox exclusive Banjo-Kazooie Skylander, I would simply buy the game on Xbox.

Well I say it was handed badly because of a reason that was stated many, many many times before. It breaks a core rule the franchise had: use your character in a friends game. Now it is "use your characters in a friends game...if they have the right console".
And my personal bias of light and dark only getting one character each because of a monkey and a turtle. (Yeah I knowthey might have still only gotten one character but they said 20 characters, the Skymiibo should have been 21 and 22)

I have no problem with light and dark being "half" elements. They're concepts are pretty limiting. Until I see deeper innovation on their look and concepts, I'm okay with them sharing a "slot".

Donkey Kong and Bowser are lame characters who I couldn't care less about. But yes, it was a stupid idea to bring them into Skylanders and to have console exclusive characters.

Donkey is not a lame caracter, he's pretty funny to play and totally fits with the game.
I adore his attacks who reminds me lots of games, donkey konga, double dash, returns, even the first one on atari 2600. I prefer having a legend of the video game than a lambda skylander with a questionable design, dommed to be forgotten in the mass.

Well, agree to disagree. I'd prefer the game continue creating original characters from their own IP, like they always have, whether I'm a fan of the character or not.

Agree. I think they even specifically said "20 new Skylanders" and it's already difficult to consider half or so of the roster this year as "new". They aren't Skylanders but playable characters, guest-stars which don't affect the lore in any possible way (except for the Multiverse thing). As such I simply consider them as being pure gameplay features and nothing more. What sincerely annoys me is exactly what TakeYourLemons and GaiaMemories said: firs time two figures aren't universally compatible. Sure, this time they are two Nintendo characters... But what if different consoles will end up having original exclusive figures (not necessarily characters) in the future...? Wouldn't be good at all. They are awesome playable characters, with creative movesets and great animations but as a concept they have been handled horribly. And "Nintendo is where our fans are" is not only insulting but also an inconsistent excuse. "All our money is worth the same" sounds better. ![]()

The worst part is, Nintendo players are gonna buy 4 copies of the game (regular and dark editions to get both for DK and Bowser) have Amiibo fanatics buy a copy or two if they like the poses better, or just to have the whole set, and then point to the numbers as "why" they chose to do it.
Graphically, you're crazy if you think the Wii U is the preferred format. If it wasn't for the Amiibo landers, most with one of the other systems would have made the switch. Again, I feel this was a specific show of fanboism by VV themselves. Otherwise, why wouldn't they have contacted Sony and Microsoft to include an exclusive on all systems. I think I ultimately have an issue with it is because if you are gonna prize unit sales over integrity of the franchise rules, do it right and make even more money. We've had plenty of threads with examples of Sony and Microsoft characters that would fit (most Microsoft ideas are through Rare, which they own). Finally, this is just one more thing that takes programming time that some don't see the benefit of. The DK Bowser team could have been designing battle arenas for all. Instead they were paid to develop content that will forever have to be dealt with moving forward that other players won't get to experience unless they play on the inferior system. I can't emphasize this enough. It's all these things that constrain the developers into not being able to produce games with Giants/Swap Force levels of activities and game modes.

Couldn't have said it better. I sincerely think I would have accepted the Skymiibos more if they didn't came out with this game. I know they fit the theme but really... Only 10 brand new characters, the rest are revamps and vehicles... And they decide to invest time and money to create 2 console exclusives instead of two new Skylanders for Light and Dark, for example...? I'm absolutely enjoying SuperChargers so far but bad choices remain bad choices.
