I'm new to Skylanders, basically only got it for DK and Bowser, but I'm just wondering what the purpose of levelling is. As in, once you've beaten story mode, if there is any incentive to max out a character. Post-story content is all vehicle-based (do weapon and shield upgrades matter for online or are they just standardised?). Only incentive I can think of is for Nightmare mode, but I saw footage of a level 20 taking minimal damage in Nightmare mode, so it seems like it removes a lot of the challenge.

Nope. No reason, really, because as you said, endgame is mainly racing.
Level 20's still die easy in Nightmare, but to me the game isn't worth going through a second time. I am going to go back through Swap Force again soon, however. Glad I went through this game on Nightmare first, as if I hadn't, I would've never tried Nightmare, because of all the monotonous driving I had to do in each level.

Racing and other vehicle content is the end game. Some are overly butt hurt about it. More hit points can help you in racing though. And with it being online, there's nothing to say they won't patch some more content.
Still way more to do then Trap Team.

Glad heroic challenges are gone. Imagine doing 165 per skylander. That's 27225 challenges. No thank you. |

But do your stats affect online races though For example are health and vehicle weapon/shield upgrades carried over to online, or does every vehicle just get standardised stats |

What's the purpose of getting to 20? To say you have.

No game really had any real reason to have level 20 except for max health. This endgame is online(co-op or racing) and Tessa and Hugo quests(which aren't always vehicles), and for those it'll be as hard as when you first started the game.

I belive they are carried over. Basically you only need to max 3 Characters and Vehicles, 1 land, sea, and sky + the corresponding characters. The others are just supplementary.

I liked to beat arenas and kaos mode challenges in nightmare difficulty. For this purpose I used to max out my characters, it was a bit easier this way. Additionally if you played PvP at swap force for instance it also made a difference.

There is some little reasons to get your skylander to level 20 , e.g. A late potal master power can give you an extra 20% or so health if your characters level 20 and fully upgraded. But apart from reaching max health there's never been any real reason to max your character out.
But yeah everyone's waiting for a game update now to give a little more incentive or at least another trophy to be released . The games great and the racing decently entertaining but once you reach portal master 75 there's a lot less incentive to play. Hopefully they'll update with some battle arena

And that's why "farming" for portal master rank is dumb. Folks race to the finish and complain their there (not saying you did that, just pointing it out in general).

I agree , stardust farming is one of the worst things I think you can do in this game. It's great they made the game so that you almost could fully complete it without waiting for figures to come out like the past 2 games, but that doesn't mean you should abuse it by not even playing the game to complete it.
I got to level 75 by doing all the content and completing emblems etc. and even by doing that , now with the few challenges I have left , it is lacking a sense of purpose to complete the few star rewards I have left because star dust doesn't do anything after level 75. After a couple more waves come out I'll probably just start a second save file to give myself a goal again. That's what's great about these game , you can replay them with a completely new set of characters. People seem to take that for granted these days lol.

It's the exact opposite. Character level is the one thing that helps you in races because it increases your HP. Are you letting your opinion of Superchargers affect your ability to give an accurate response? I'm no happier than anyone else about the lack of arena modes, but in the past games I 100% completed all the arena modes with my first character. All the Skylanders I bought afterwards, the only reason to level them up and play them was for the fun of it. It's not any different here. There is plenty of fighting. Tessa gives arena battle quests that are sometimes very difficult on nightmare mode. It's not a complete waste. |
