Not that good, 3DS and Wii versions are the same game. Better off sticking with the racing in the current gen platforms or just sticking with mario kart.

I like it it's an easy way to level up on the go

I got the 3DS version and I'm enjoying it a lot but, not as good as the console version.

Got the wii version and I beat the game in 1 file already

It's a lot of fun and a nice diversion from the main game, but the different mechanics take some getting used to since they're so different from the console racing.

The Wii one makes me feel like I'm playing a Skylanders game from 2003. Not in a bad way - feels like a throwback haha

I've been playing it and having fun. Though now I'm taking a break for Splat & Pop Fizz to come out, along with their vehicles, so I can open the magic gate. [In racing, at least on 3DS, you need a vehicle of matching element to open gates...]

I also, after a talk with my mom this morning, decided to keep collecting EVERYTHING. So it looks like I need to buy 4 to 5 more starter packs.... *sigh*

That being said, I just registered all my old skylanders into the game: and while double checking the character screen I noticed something. Easter Thrillepede isn't listed! And that's weird as the 3DS versions of the games [at least ever since Swap Force] always list all the characters, regardless if you own them or not! Then again, it doesn't list E3 Hot Streak either [although it DOES list Golden Hot Streak...]

So, I find that odd.... Does the game just need a patch? Or will E3 and Easter Thrillepede not work on the 3DS version? Or what....?

I'm really enjoying it and the graphics look great for a Wii game (probably because I'm playing on the Wii U.

Wait, am I missing something? I don't have the 3DS game, just the Wii equivalent. Does the Wii not have a collection area? Literally all I see is Adventure, Cups, and Settings. I haven't tried Cups yet, Adventure is the linear path of races where you need X number of stars to proceed periodically, and Setting is obvious. Sounds like 3DS has an extra feature? I'm guessing they just wanted to ensure Wii players use the portal and figures, while the 3DS people have a legitimate reason to load up the cartridge for portability.

Not necessarily. I don't have the Wii version [yet], but I'm talking about when you select a character/vehicle for a race. When you select an element, it normally shows every character [+ Repose & In-game variant of each character] in the game, with characters you own being highlighted, and ones you don't being dulled out.

Looking through the list: Easter Thrillepede wasn't there at all. Same with E3 Hot Streak on the land vehicle select screen.

Edit: In turn, it's not really extra features, but just a way to have everything portable.

Do Gates act as alternative paths inside the tracks or is there a classic hack-and-slash Story Mode available as well?

I just finished it and I have to say that it is pretty fun. Maybe wait for a price drop though unless you really want Bowser ASAP like I did.

The adventure mode is set up like Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed where you move around a map to select races and challenges. On this map there are elemental gates blocking pathways that lead to challenges and treasure chests that contain vehicle mods.

Okay: So.... In the 3DS version of Racing [and I assume the same for the Wii] there is a story mode. The story mode is comprised of going around a world map sort of thing, where each space is either a race, a challenge on a race track [exp: hit the chompies, drift for some points, or 1 timed lap.], an elemental gate, a treasure chest, a star gate, a magic vault, and at the very end, a trophy. There are about 5 maps/5 trophies from adventure mode.

Going down the list: Race and Challenge spaces are self explanatory.
Star Gates block your path from going forward until you reach the set number. [Stars you earn from Races and Challenges.]
Magic Vaults are areas where you can put Magic Items on the portal to earn an extra star. You can't use the same item twice, and you can only earn 3 stars per Magic Vault.
Elemental Gates are spaces that Block usually 2 things, a challenge Space followed by a treasure chest space. You must own a vehicle of the same element in order to pass it.
Treasure Chest give you mods for your vehicles [each vehicle has 3 mods, 1 from a chest, 1 from reaching level 8 (the vehicles have their own levels apparently), and 1 for pairing it with it's matching Super Charger]. I do not know if these chest are random or not, but I assume they are.
Finally, the trophy completes that story mode map.

No, there are no Elemental Gates on any of the courses. All short cuts can be taken by any element.

So how many tracks are in this game? How many of each type (Land, Sea and Sky) are in it? I've been wondering for a while.

21 courses, eh? Not too shabby. I like it!

If you look at the Wii Version as it's own game it's pretty good from what I have seen of it. I think it's the expectations that make it seem not that great.

It's not a bad Kart racer but it's not the game most people want from their Skylanders. Knowing what it is and going in to with no real expectations, I thought it was fun. Easily the quickest way to level. I put footage of each track and each kind of challenge on youtube if anyone is interested (link in my sig).
