Skylanders Superchargers: The Last Skylanders Game?

So after thinking about this long and hard, I feel that Skylanders 5 might be marking the end for Skylanders. Although it may not be the last Skylanders game, after a few things regarding Superchargers and its release, I wanted to get everyone's opinions on this 'theory' of sorts. Evidence supporting this includes:
-Less Skylanders than before (but this is not really a bad thing)
-The lack of cards coming with Skylanders (now with Superchargers we only get a sticker with the stats smilie)
-Lack of availability of figures on release (this may be only for some people, but there have been statements about this on the forums. This also applies to the lack of dark edition packs available- Here in Sydney all the Wii U Dark Edition Packs have been sold out and many sellers have stated that they will not be getting more stock)
-Running out of gimmicks (many people have begun to question "when will Activison run out of gimmicks?" and many people have been stating that the Skylanders games are becoming "too gimmicky")
-Overload of figures (With the numbers of Skylanders easily surpassing 300, many people are stating that they are getting tired of buying characters)

I don't know, it might just be me! I just wanted to address this notion to get everyone else's opinions on the matter! smilie

Lemme argue against by using each point:

-Experiment. If people complained about TT's too many figures, let's make too few figures and see the reaction. Plus saves characters designs for future games, you'd be surprised at how much stuff can be just pulled from previous development when it's fitting.
-That's just being lazy, nothing to do with the end of the series. Every big company attempts to cut corners.
-Same as above, this time it just blew up on their face.
-God, no. Running out of ideas is not a real concept. You run out of good ideas that you remember, but you can find more as long as you care.
-Their issue if they're tired.

Here's why they can set up a Skylanders 6 or at least 7:

-New direction in the story(spoilers!)
-Suspicious Skystones, one tha that the lady in Gadfly Glades shouts 'spoiler alert' at(spoilers too!)
-Using older villains worked, as did everyone's characterization(meaning David and whoever writes for TFB finally have a standard to use)
-Few new on-foot mechanics, like the concepts for characters, there were probably tons that can be used for future games since this had one month less of development. Cut content ARE new ideas to use.

Can they bomb and lose Acti's trust? Yes,for either. But there's no series fatigue YET.

Definitely not. The series is still making tons of cash, Activision won't let it end any time soon.

Besides, VV already said they had plans for Sky7.

Your points are, in order...
-Not the full truth
-Cards ... I'm not even going to warrant discussing that one.
-Every figure is available in every store I've been in since release. Exclusives obviously differ.
-They have plenty of routes to take still.
-Again, plenty of options they could opt for.

Every year, we get these threads. Every year, it's not the last game. This franchise has at least a couple years left. Probably more, but it would be naive of me to speculate about so far down the road.

In some points, you're right. It's the first of these suppositions with a decent point. But, you're forgetting the most important thing: sales.
Skylanders is criticized in some points, but people still like to buy then. People still like to play then. And Activision still like to sell then.
Skylanders probably only will end if the sales of the game and the figures decrease in a level that it will not makes money anymore.

  • The few number of Skylanders is to make the game less expensive to people (at least in theory).
  • I don't know exactly why the lack of cards. Probably because of BattleCast.
  • It's not new that figures disappear fast. Other games had the same thing in release. The lack of Dark Edition is because of a simple reason: it's a LIMITED, COLLECTOR'S Edition. I don't know if the Dark Edition of Trap Team still available, but the Swap Force one, no.
  • If they run out of gimmicks, just stick with what they have. TfB already said that, in the future, they can make new Giants because of the fan requests. So using again an old gimmick can be good too.
  • Skylanders is a game about collecting, and, for some reason, humans have something that they can't resist to collect (see Pokémon. It's about collecting too). This is what makes Skylanders sell. While some people can't buy anymore, the majority still like to collect. This is a vital point of sales in the series.

Overall, I'm not trying to destroy your opinion. I'm just giving my point and proofs of what I saying. Hope you understand.

  • New Giants would be AWESOME! In fact, I kind of want to see Giants and Swap Skylanders for the light & dark elements added....and a game that actually gives those of us who've been playing & collecting since the original SSA plenty of content requiring the various types of Skylanders toys ( maybe even new levels for each of the Adventure items... )

Know why Transformer figures have been around forever? Because they still sell.

Trust me, as long as figures for this game sell and people are still showing up for midnight launches, new games will be made.

As long as it makes money, we'll still see games. If Activision smells the end is near, they will hastily put out a last game with a story we'll probably all hate with glitches galore. We'll all still buy it because "it's the last one."

You guys say this every year....not a chance. Toys For Bob are working on the final details of next years game as we speak I am sure. No way they are going to just step away from a $$$$$ making franchise like this. Many years left of Skylanders and I wouldn't even be surprised if we eventually get a show or movie as well.

Between the games for virtually every system out there, Battlecast, digital apps & games, figures, apparel & merchandise, etc....Skylanders will probably continue for many, many years to come. When people stop playing, buying and paying attention to the series, then this is a discussion worth having.

Topics like these have been going around since the first game. Skylanders is very profitable, I don't think they will stop a cash machine like this in the near future. It reminds me of Harry potter films, which have so great revenues that they keep doing as much as they can (they have recently announced another new film by the way, something about the beasts of harry potter's world).

The day where people stop buying these, the game will stop, but that doesn't seem to be near by.

The mold for each character doesn't cost as much as how many of each of that figure sells. Trust me when I say this franchise makes them serious bank.

I agree though. Every year someone comes and says this is the last game. It's like the old creepy man from Friday the 13th who always tells the teens they're doomed. Granted, they are, but still, this is cliche in the Skylanders community.

  • Actually Trap Team has been impossible to find since before last Christmas. I randomly found a couple in a Walmart a month or so back. Not sure if it was just buried stock or what. But Swap Force has still been widely available at GameStop the last time I checked. They even marked them down to around $30 trying to get rid of them.
