For the iOS you can play as "Instant" variant of Skylanders which are for use when you're "on the go".
But can you use a real Spitfire by using the portal AND a Instant Hot Streak at the same time?

You probably can co-op only.

I noticedthat i the WiiU version, when you wait long enough before putting a vehicle on the portal, you get the option to "use an instant vehicle". It must be the same for all versions.

Fun fact, even physical discs have instant guys in it, instant spitfire is pretty cool looking

On ps4 you can use instant and toy during coop

You mean the physical normal starter packs let you play as the instant characters?! That's awesome, so that means you can still complete the game if you lose a figure?! That's a great edition, glad they added it!

Ok, someone needs to do a tutorial on how to unlock the instant characters with a disc. I just took my characters off the portal while on a mission and the only options I had were to restart the mission or return to the academy.

While I had them off, and to give it some time to give me the option, I went to see what the Instant characters looked like.

At first I thought it was showing Gold Hot Streak, but his pipes are gold too and the Instant Hot Streaks pipes are not.

Wait so correct me if I'm wrong.....if someone just purchased a used game disc only, say for Xbox One, you would still be able to use Spitfire, Hot Streak & Stealth?

While some may think that is cool, I don't like the idea of these games going that direction. The entire point to the franchise and what made it what it is today are TOYS TO LIFE! Even the Portal Owners set should not have happened unless it was a retail release. Should have been like Giants.

Nope. Just Spitfire and Hot Streak, and you still need a Portal plugged in from what I can tell.

I think it was made this way because the game requires you to have a land vehicle, and a supercharger, so you will always have access to them

I was informed that you just have the blank portal screen up ,with no skylander on the portal, and wait a little while and the option to play as Instant landers would appear?

I think we need ultyzaus and jesse217 to respond with what they did exactly inorder for us to try and recreate it. I'm on a WiiU and have tried simply removing the figures during a mission, at the academy and after re-entering the game. I tried removing the SC portal and it tells me to plug one in.

Still nothing.

WiiU? I had a Giants portal plugged in,but even then just leaving it idle gave the prompt. Are you looking at the gamepad to see when it appears there?

It's been running since 8. Watching TV but have the game pad next to me. Still nothing.

Next commercial I'll try an older portal. I'm using the Superchargers one right now.

Yeah,might be because of the type of portal. I had the prompt just a few seconds in.

Trying with a TT portal. Will update with results.

Unfortunately they don't show up in your collection. The portal sequence shows them as "instant" but the in-game indicator in the lower left hand corner just uses the Spitfire and Hot Streak names, without the "instant" designation.

Sorry, haven't been on in a bit, but since the game is supposed to be a full one on IOS, I don't see a reason why it wouldn't let you.

The only instants available are spitfire and hot streak. Would love a toy for of instant spitfire, love the coloration.

I didn't actually select it, but the option appeared.
What I did was, from the Academy, take off the vehicle while leaving the character figure on the portal (was updating my collection), and it just appeared. And just to confirm, I have the WiiU disc version.

EDIT:

I just read that not using the new portal might be the key, and I am indeed still using the TT portal, so it makes sense.

Hi, how do u select instant Spifire for co-op? I'm on PS3 and the instant Spitfire is no longer selectable once i place a figure as P2.

I don't believe it's possible to use him in co-op situations, although you may use Hot Streak.

I guess people who don't want to have a vehicle on the portal at all times have their workaround now.

The Instant Hot Streak and Instant Spitfire work well for me. I wasn't going to pick up Sky5 until the deep discounts happen on black friday, because I was soured by Sky4. I was at GameStop, and they had a used Sky5 disc, and I knew it would work with my TT portal, so I picked it up, expecting to have to get a vehicle and SC Skylander. I was surprised to see the Instant characters, and this allows me to play the game all the way through without buying additional figures. I suspect it has something to do with them wanting to be able to sell the game in the nintendo store. When I get home, I'll test it to see if you can still play without a portal at all.

Instant and Instant Hot Streak appear as options in Racing as well. If you don't have a Skylander on the portal, Instant appears after a few seconds, and the same is true for Instant Hot Streak. This works even with the Overdrive Portal from the Starter Pack.

I hope this instant Skylanders stuff works for the 360. I found a disc on ebay for only $25, which is very fair for a 6 day old 75 dollar game. I know it'll only get lower, but I waited long enough. I feel so envous that you all are playing it and not me! Honestly, I don't really want any of the packed figures and the new portal is just unwanted trash at this point.

(don't say that! you know you want me!!! buy both of my variants too!)

Well, if it doesn't work out, then I'll just have to wait for Rollerbrawl and her car to play the game, right? It's always been my plan to only buy Rollerbrawl, Splat and Storm Blade and their vehicles...the bare minimum for the game. The rest I'll get on discount when it's all unwanted (much like how Trap Team stuff is this week).
