We all know the Skymiibos have 2 modes. Skylander mode and Amiibo mode. And you switch these modes by twisting the base.
I just got my starter packs today, having both TCDK and HSB. But the bases don't click into each mode and just seem to loosely turn [although only with force, tilting the figures, the base stays in place]. But that can still be easy to turn by accident by it catching on your sleeve or something else.
And I would think the chip(s) would read either way, so...
Does it matter if you have them in Skylander mode or Amiibo mode? Or will the portal/gamepad just read the appropriate chip either way?

I don't see why they made it if it doesn't matter, so probably does.

Edit: Oh, I misread your question. Yes, it does matter. I tried putting DK on the portal in amiibo mode and it didn't read him.

I haven't heard of it with the intent of it having to click. Just that it would switch when turned.

Does anyone know of the skymiibos save capabilities? Can data from the skylander games like upgrade paths be saved as well as save data from other amiibo Nintendo games such as smash bros or Mario party? Or will we only be able to choose 1

Pretty sure both work as I believe it is dual chipped (To be able to be read in both Amiibo-capable games and skylanders)

Amiibos can be used in multiple amiibo ready games sure. As it stands you can only record save data from one game. In my case I choose between saving smash bros data vs Mario party data on amiibos that are "useable" in both, like Mario, Luigi, Bowser etc. With skylanders thrown in the mix as another data saved to figure game I'm wondering if in amiibo mode the figures will have their own available data saves for an additional game besides the skylander upgrade paths, something current amiibos lack. Does that make sense? |
