Your Opinions About the Game [CLOSED]

Ok, so SuperChargers is finally released in US and we have not much time for the Australian and European releases, so I created a Topic to question to people that don't have the game: what do you think until now? You like the gameplay, the vehicles, everything? Post here your opinions. Opinions about the characters and vehicles are also accepted (like a character review).

I hate the land vehicles, for reasons defined by AzureStarline, but the sea ones are okay, and sky vehicles are the best. On the plus side, making money is (so far) easier than ever and some of the new Skylanders I've tried--most namely Spitfire--are downright awesome!

It doesn't necessarily feel like a typical Skylanders game (or at least, the first level doesn't) as gameplay is mostly focused on vehicles and finding treasure, but it's still pretty good!

Most of beefs with the game come from my issues physically storing the figures.

Well, there are sections where you drive with traditional racing controls, and sections where you wander freely in the vehicle with traditional Skylander controls (up moves up, down moves down, etc) This confused me at first, but once I figured that out it was a lot easier.

Have yet to make up my mind about it. I was a bit disappointed with some of the graphics for the WiiU version, and I miss the completion stars at the end of the levels. I feel like I don't know what I missed or even if I missed anything at all.

So far so good. Driving on land took some getting use to. Playing on Xbox One so graphics are great, minimal space on hard drive, quick install time too. Lots of new odds and ends that I like such as the wishing well and slot machines. Now character wise I have only played as Frightful Fiesta and Dark Spitfire, really enjoyed both, Spitfire is fast. My daughter played as Stormblade, Dive Clops, DD Gill Grunt, Steel plated Smash Hit and Dark Stealth Elf. Stealth Elf has been slowed down and Dive Flops is almost as slow as Thumpback, lol. It seems to be closer to Swap Force as far as level length for anyone curious. Overall it is an enjoyable game, its fun and a definite for Skylanders fans and a major step up from Trap Team.

You have to switch the control scheme in order to do that, though. With the default controls, every section has traditional racing controls. I think that's why a lot of people are having difficulty with the controls. Once you switch it to the other control scheme the vehicles will control exactly like a Skylander in the open sections.

Id really like to know what you guys think of the portal master powers. they seem really cool.

You might not be far ahead into the game yet but..

WIll you eventually get all portal master powers of will we have to pick a limited few of which to upgrade?
I kind of like it if they're limited so everyone can have a slightly different experience and would also add to the replayability being able to favour different powers each replay.

Actually maxing out your portal master level now has a great purpose instead of just getting a hat. Being able to switch the upgrade path of any skylander !!! AWESOME.

Myself, I'm loving the game. Miles ahead of Trap Team, which had great ideas but the game was lacking (and I got soooo many freezes and crashes). No problems with this one (so far, anyway).

I kind of am disappointed in the lack of dragonlanders this year, although the vehicles make up for it tenfold. I didn't even think you'd be able to mod them and upgrade them as well. Now I want to get every. single. one. smilie

I also wish they wouldn't have gone with some oldies and created a whole new team of Skylanders for this one, although I will say that Eruptor's Burn Cycle looks pretty awesome. Spitfire is SO good. Can't wait to see Thrillipede too. But my god is Terrafin glorious this year. Love the new Grunt too.

Only disappointment so far is Dive-Clops. Ugh, what a pain, this guy. Looks cool but he's sloooow and cumbersome. Love his Dive Bomber, though.

Gameplay's fantastic in general, although the water sections are kind of tedious at times. Nothing to ruin the game for me, though.

All in all, bottom line is I'd put Superchargers right behind Swap Force as my favorite game of the series. Basically : SF > SC > TT > SG > SSA is my opinion.

Really enjoying it so far, lots of reference to old games ( even 3ds ones), miss villains but love the dark attack from a dark trap, hate how magic items no longer work and are just legendary treasures( really upset that healing elixer popped up and said "place this legendary treasure in the academy and see what happens).

Loving the new slot chests and wishing well, portal rank powers are beast too!

The trophies pissed me off, all that happen was a pop up saying kaos is available.... Was hopping for at least a cut scene.

I at first thought I wouldn't like stealth elf ( she's now a long range fighter) but turned out I actually like her lol.

Smash hit is amazing, love how he has two move sets.

Spitfire is just all around fun, going tornado path with a dark variant makes him look pretty beast.

Fiesta is the one I'm most disappointed with, was hoping he would play better.

Eons Elites have been nerfed sadly. Still lots of health but lacking attack power.

Many of my favs( wind up is one) are back to there glory, strong as ever, blackout is now OP if you go prince of darkness path.

Played the first 4 chapters on PS4, AMAZING so far! Colorful and interesting levels. Many improvements to make this game more fun on the replay. I think the main story is good so far but I don't see any option to have captions during the cutscenes, so this hard-of-hearing player is missing a bit of dialogue.

When you talk to Persephone to upgrade your 'lander you go straight into the menu while Persephone mentions upgrades in the background - haven't seen any "dialogue gateways" to click through at all. It's fantastic.

You don't have to break objects to get cash for your Skylander - there are piles of treasure hidden about (and they are still there on replay). You seem to acquire enough wealth to buy upgrades at a steady pace.

Character impressions:
Spitfire - fast and fun! I'm on the dash path - you can charge up the dash attack to an extra level and his flames turn pink to show when he's ready.

Stealth Elf - she felt underpowered at first, but with some upgrades she is more interesting. I chose the stealth path because I prefer to sneak around and attack while my turret is distracting enemies. The big gun tends to lock on enemies and I wasn't a fan of how it handled, but maybe I'm more of a melee fighter than a ranged one.

Stormblade - love her! Dash attack moves her around very quickly. Reminds me of Ciri from The Witcher 3. I like the blades and the variety of ways she attacks with them. Her animations are very nice.

Yeah, I loved the impact of immediate turmoil and everything is going bad and then you take 20 steps and release your team. It's much better than those light hearted first levels we're used too, but wish they could've stuck you in the thick of disaster from the word go for a lot longer. I guess technically it is, on a Skylander level...it just needs...more...evil. You're still trying to figure out your bearings for a chapter or two, but you have an army of NPCs ready to help you out at the Academy immediately after first level....IMO I would've stretched that period of "getting the band back together" as the flow seems too fast for me in pacing. Then again, VV's levels are like 2-3 of TfB so content wise it's the same, but it impacts story pacing.

This game's pretty much everything I expected, and I'm loving it so far!

My only two complaints are with the land vehicle sections - more specifically, the sections of those sections where the camera isn't behind the vehicle - and the lock puzzles, both of which are kind of annoying.

But other than that, solid 9/10.

Yep, that's my feeling too. He looks funny and his abilities are hilarious at first but he's just not that viable to me. It's like he's more for a humorous factor than a beast factor. Dive-Clops on the other hand looks beasts but he plays like crap (to me, anyway). That's very disappointing especially me being an undead and water element fan.

Test played more characters by now and Stormblade is as great as Spitfire to me, I have to say. Also, I never was a fan of Jet-Vac but this year, he's fantastic too.

Definitely curious to see what they did to Eruptor, Pop Fizz and Roller Brawl now!

The overall narrative of the game is amazing. As usual V.V. likes to suck the player in at the begging of the game and make things personal. I've just gotten to a certain Library (amazing by the way...the story sucks you in smilie ) and I'm still amazed at how much fun it is. V.V. has me for life at this point lol.

I wish the "open world" driving mechanics were different.

I don't care for the "Halo" way of driving. Just giving it gas and using the thumb stick to point the vehicle in a direction. My kids really hate it. It took each of them about 15 minutes before they stopped trying to run off the play area. Even now, after playing it for a few times, it still takes them a little bit to remember how it works. They were all expecting a typical driving control.

I think that's the one thing that infuriates them the most. Especially the youngest one who only plays Minecraft and Skylanders.

Great game, even if it's probably not what the series needs. Though the handling and marketing this year were abysmal, surprisingly little glitches for a game with one month less of development, fun all around, and with a clever story that probably could've used more exposition because at least 3 points(spoilers:

How was the Darkness destroyed in the first place, how did Flynn and co. get captured but not Mags which is almost as important, and how the Academy got so rekt in so little time

you'd only understand with Rift into Overdrive... And compensating the cost of less required 'landers with a hardcover comic is dumb.

BUT with that out of the way - the soundtrack isn't as utterly amazing as TT but it's REALLY good, the gameplay is well rounded, the only 100% filler level comes before the last one so there's always something of interest, the story might have some oversights but the narrative is genius, and though the gimmick overshadows a lot, it's definately not shoehorned - everything transitions seamlessly from the story to the gameplay with it.

In a nutshell, yes, VV, you have my approval. Still need to work out some mistakes, but you have my approval.

So far I'm really enjoying the game, though I do have complaints...

1) Why did they remove the character bios? I loved reading them in SF, but they aren't in TT or Superchargers smilie
2) the races SUCK...
3) Magic Items & Adventure Items only unlock Legendary Treasures now..and those treasures don't really do anything worthwhile beyond granting more money
4) Traps don't allow playing as villains...I was so hoping to have Kaos driving around smilie
5) having to change ownership on all my Skylander toys AGAIN...I'm on Xbox on the same gamertag as always, why can't the games just go by that? At least on PS & Xbox....just annoying is all.
6) I miss elemental gates, collectibles, level goals....Superchargers feels way more straightforward and less exploratory than the first 4 games to me.
7) yet again, many older figures almost feel pointless. sure everyone can use any vehicle, but Giants, SwapForce, Trap Masters and Villains either aren't used ( villains ) or have none of the special things they had in the games they were introduced in...they're mostly just extra lives now.

Can you elaborate on this? I didn't see any reason why the older characters were worse. Some of them can do more damage than some of the SuperChargers. They also gave major buffs to MOST of the minis, as they no longer have reduced attack range.

All I meant is that there's nothing special requiring the older toys...sure, it makes things easier for newbies but I miss having to bring out a specific type of Skylander for certain tasks. Aside from needing all 3 vehicle types there's nothing really needed to fully complete all the games levels...

You know, I'd like to see some kind of f2p Skylanders game where we actually NEED all the different elements and figure types to complete everything...but with the option to buy instant versions of everyone so players who don't care about the toys could still play & enjoy the game. I kind of miss Feats of Strength, Swap Zones ( not the specific ones we got, but I liked the concept ), element gates ( including the dual element gates ), villain quests & stashes, Traptanium Crystals to break....

I finally made sense of the arena-like racing areas where the camera isn't behind you. Like people said, you use the stick to move the car like you would move a walking Skylander. The key is to not touch the trigger. I was still going for R2 to accelerate, but that recreates the original default controls' steering problem.

I'm relieved to say I'm fully past my troubles from Sunday with getting steering right in both the PS4 and Wii games.

I've collected everything on day 1 since the beginning. I went to the store and saw that the characters and figures are even more or just as ridiculous looking as the trap masters, so I decided against buying anything at all. I liked it better when the characters were simple and elegant. I don't like the new push towards crazy looking humanoid cartoons with props. Skylanders have become caricatures of themselves. I may buy everything in a year or two second hand.

Simple =/= Good. I only remember most of the SSA cast because I started then(and maybe because I have the SSA poster on a door), little features can also mean unmemorable the same way a lot can mean a mess. It's doing it right, not a cookie cutter recipe.

I've played only a little, but so far, I liked Trap Team more. A lot of the new UI is really slick, but some parts I just don't really care for. The vehicle toys are kinda cool, but I don't like the vehicle portions of the levels. It sucks they're mandatory instead of skippable like Swap Zones (which I disliked even more). They also completely ruined the way I like to play Gear Shift and she's one of my favorites. The Gear Saws are terrible now. They do seem to have Series 1 Rollerbrawl Bullrush back to it's original overpoweredness (which Trap Team had ruined - my one major gripe with that game).

Love the game. My new favourite i think if it holds up over the weekend. The vehicle concept gives a really fresh feel. The racing is decently designed and challenging and interesting. Really love that theres so many collectables and things to do after story mode that actually seem worth doing. FInally some daily quests!!!

the mini chapters are great so you dont have to replay a whole level to go back to one little area.

The reposed characters are also really fresh takes on the characters. And the personal character quests with buzz to get stat ugrades have their own dialogue. which just adds that little extra something to make it more interesting.

Portal master powers are a great feature.

Sky stones actually requires some strategy now, its finally evolved into something worth thinking about.

Really nothing bad to say.
Just a tiny issue....Without the Trophys for air and land, i feel a little limited in my racing content. Only 2 tracks available until we get the land trophy really isnt much to last you. I wouldve been fine with 3, 2 just doesnt give me enough diversity. chompy track, dragon track, chompy track, dragon track....it gets a little repetative. Guess ill focus on sea for a while. but i spose thats their plan. Land racing is obviously more popular, so realeasing the sea tracks, then air, then land so that everyone wont just go straight for the land racing is probably the best way to go.

great game though.

Donkey Kong withstanding, this game is BANANAS! It's taken my expectations and blown them out of the sky/land/sea! I'm especially impressed with the quality of the figures - never did I think I'd prefer Reef Ripper to Dive Bomber, and yet here I am, still gobsmacked about how immaculate that figure looks. smilie

My only beef is with the difficulty of setting up off-TV play. It used to be a simple matter of going into Options and selecting GamePad Only Play, but now you have to load your save file first, which means missing out on the awesome theme tune (I'm currently between televisions, and as such I have no option other than playing exclusively on the GamePad).

Vehicles have a slight learning curve, and I have yet to try the Racing, but once you know how to steer it becomes second nature. I've tried Land, Sea and Sky sections, and they're all such fun. I can't choose a favourite! smilie

The only things I wish this game had was online co op matchmaking and a arena mode like the last two games had.

Also more people playing online races in something other than land races.

Everything else alright.

The game feels wonderful! The vehicles and atmosphere make you feel bad to the bone! I am enjoying using spitfire. smilie

I just don't like how hard some water levels can be that require you to squeeze in tight spiky places.

Is there seriously no arena mode? I thought I hadn't unlocked it yet or something. And do shoulder buttons not work as alternates anymore? And what is that training thing at the Academy with Buzz for? I was messing with it while trying to find some sort of arena and the greebles would just disappear through the floor when they get knocked out of the circle...

I don't understand the love for Superchargers. Maybe I'm biased because I was skeptical as soon as we saw the different bases that don't match any of the others and the announcement of vehicles as the gimmick. If there's seriously no arena mode... I'm actually disappointed I bought it. I did not expect to feel that way. I thought I'd still enjoy it.

The reason shoulder buttons don't work is because they have assignments this time around. There are too many special functions they had to kick them. When you get to those points, you realize not doubling up was the way to go.

Glad heroic challenges are gone. Imagine doing 165 per skylander. That's 27225 challenges. No thank you.
