Thoughts on hunting? [CLOSED]

Hunting. It's a rather touchy subject for some. I suppose things have been rather hectic with the recent passing of Cecil the lion, but we must still remember the age-old debates that had been in place long before.

While the practice certainly has its place in society and civilization, I just can't help but wonder one thing:

Why kill animals when you could kill people?

i'm kind of neutral about it
i do find it sad that we're killing animals (and probably ripping them from their families) but that's just what nature is, we kill for food
i'd just like to think that the animals don't suffer or realize what's going on, though they probably do

I seriously believe there is something wrong with people who think it's fun to kill a living being, whether it be person or animal. It's sick and selfish.

Hunting animals for food, that is another story entirely. I suppose it is necessary to keep the population of certain animals under control, and financially, it can be easier for people.

Population control and food are pro.
Fun, neutral. I can see where people are coming from with their entertainment from hunting but I personally wouldn't do it.

This was meant to be a joke topic. Hence the last line.

In all honesty, in most forms of hunting, animals don't suffer. Bullets and arrows kill pretty quickly if your aim is true. The only ways I can think of for animals to suffer is with the use of certain traps, which is illegal in most countries now anyway.

Hunting is very humane compared to the way animals are treated in slaughterhouses, in any case.

If it's for food and necessity, go for it.

When it's for pure sport, I have a little more issue with it but I'm still relatively neutral.

EDIT: Apparently you're joking with that last line.

Dude.....You didn't really think.......Come on......

Anyway, I do think that hunting should only be for meat. If you want to keep any hide/fur/horns/antlers/whatever else, sure, but the meat should be your main goal. I do believe that hunting ONLY for the above products is wrong. And killing purely for fun is wrong in any case.

Unless you're killing people, of course.

i think it's ok so long if the animal population is good, and if you use the animal after you kill it.

Hunting for food, sure. It's the way nature works. But hunting for fun…that's just a bit strange. How is it fun to kill something?

Again I agree. Food or leave it alone. Killing is not fun.

If it's for food or for whittling down the population of a dangerous animal to make an area more liveable, then I have no issue.

If it's purely for personal entertainment then I disagree with the practice. There are other ways to have fun.

If a hunter is hunting deer rabbits squirrel pheasant, etc. and using the meat I have no problems what so ever. To hunt for so called "fun" that's when I feel it is wrong.

For sport, no. For food, if there is no other alternative.
Then again, hunters hunting sparx's is fine.

As long as you make some use out of the animal you kill, for example food or the pelt or bones, i dont see a problem. killing it and not doing anything with it isnt okay, though.
