My question is, I bought trap team for iOS and have that portal. Since Skylanders didn't change the portal will my old one work? Or do I need to buy the starter pack again?

It should; any portal works with Superchargers with the expected limitations,and the Traptanium Portal is compatible with everyone - if the tablet portal has the same functionality it should be compatible as well.
