With "***Konami" trending on Twitter, and most people that even MENTION the company's name claiming that Phantom Pain is the last Konami game they will ever buy...(add to that, most of them will either wait for a sale to buy it or get it used).
Oh, and mention that Konami scrapped Silent Hills for a...digital Silent Hill Pachinko machine that uses REAL money to gamble with...
I think they're finished.

Konami are definitely not finished. They just realized how to get better profits.
I'm sure a whoooole lot of people are completely finished with supporting Konami, though. :P |

Konami as a dedicated video game developer is probably on its way out. Or at least Konami as a credible video game developer. With Kojima walking out they basically buried both Metal Gear and the potential revival of Silent Hill; their two biggest franchises. The company doesn't really have all that much left. Maybe some of those Yugioh games sell every now and then but it's of course not a very viable source, and they acknowledge that they're making more profit and putting more focus into their gambling ventures.
Konami as a company will not be completely dead. It will just move onto gambling machines as a primary source of income over video games. Question is then if they'll sell off some of their IPs. I'm certain people don't want to see Metal Gear remain in the hands of these guys, away from its creator. |

I'll just never forgive them for taking off PT and cancelling Silent Hills.

I'm more bothered by the treatment of their staff than of their franchises. It's god awful.

Well, the big devs are seeing these one hit mobile developers hit it big and think this can be done very easily...and are finding out it's not. There's a lot of "legacy" or "traditional" gamers that want AAA experiences, and the notion of add on content/purchases has been more or less accepted. But, like Sony, they are slipping up...the game industry is totally about "what you've done for me lately". Capcom has made their screw ups as well but at least decided to green light a RE 2 remake--might as well make their classics modern while they figure out the next move.

Konami Removes Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain on Twitter for Copyright
Said fanart had even been retweeted by Kojima himself.

As long as Kojima and all the other employees can find work or go indie, Kojima can pursue it's gambling dream and fail hard, like Donald Trump fails at running casinos, because Konami is Konami and Konami is the worst.

They aren't finished, they have other sources of large income so they will still be a thing. Just not as a video game company

I hope that someone buys off their game rights then, cause right now they're sitting on a ton of franchises.

Yes. It still has an anime going on with a manga adaptation as well as new card sets getting released every so often.

the sheep will buy the next konami game too. they always do even when they say this is the last game they are gonna buy... i have boycotted konami a long time ago, so i am not gonna buy mgs5. it can be the best game ever for all i care. thats how you do it, you boycott and move on, and let the konami idiots get stuck with warehouses of unsold mgs5 games.

Pretty sure they're not going to be stuck with warehouses of unsold copies, considering it sold 3 million units globally.

Considering how many people claimed that MGSV will be the last Konami title they buy (and for all intents and purposes it could very well be the last really good Konami game anyway), I don't think it's very fair to call people who buy the game idiots. It's important to remember that aside from MGS, Silent Hill, and Castlevania, Konami doesn't really have any major franchises. Silent Hill's attempt at a comeback got stomped on, Castlevania's creator got driven out of the company a while ago, and now MGS may very well have had its swan song. People aren't going to go back to the company unless they're a fan of Yugioh games. |

I preordered MGSV, but that's just to support Kojima (if he's even getting anything off it.) Despite what people may think, and even if Kojima was a total asshole to the company, MGS was his baby, he was there since its inception back in the '80s, and he's overseen it as it grew and expanded to what it is (or was). The fact that Konami fired him and removed his name from the game when HE'S THE ONE THAT BUILT IT is one hell of a cheap shot. Castlevania, I don't know much about. Silent Hills was such a disappointment not just because of the names on the project, but because that it was thought to be the game that brought back a nearly dead franchise to its former glory, that it was promised and abruptly ripped away in exchange for a friggin gambling machine. Normally, I wouldn't link opinions here, but you guys should really watch this guy's video on it, he pretty much tells exactly how it is (Spoiler'd due to his use of language).
