They use the money to support and promote their cause. "Adopting" is just a neat way to get people to donate. A lot of conservation organizations do the same thing. It helps people feel more involved.

The "criminals of the sea" bit is probably where people have a problem (I mean I would like to think nobody has a necessary problem with stating fact). I have a slight problem if only because it feels inaccurate.

Dolphins are among the few animals as smart or smarter than humans on the planet correct? Then wouldn't it also apply that they have different trains of thought and sets of morals and ethics? Therefore this could mean that there are bad apples that do these activities in the species similar to how there's bad people in humanity. So it's not so much that dolphins as a whole are the criminals of the sea more than dolphins have criminals in its species just like we do.

I would just like to say that dolphins do have sex for pleasure and use it as a way to socialize, and they have been known to at least try to rape people. And while they are very intelligent animals, they don't follow our laws on what is right and wrong. They are still animals, and they will do what they want.

I've never heard of an orca trying to rape a person but there have been some who killed their trainers while in captivity.

This doesn't necessarily make them criminals, though. They are just wild animals doing what is in their nature. And none of this is super common anyway, so Idk why this is even being discussed when, like Sess said, this topic is supposed to be about helping these animals.

People actually thought that was a joke? I have absolutely no idea how any of you thought that.

In comparison to the sex topics on S&N, my post only mentions the word rape. I find it difficult to see how my post is inappropriate.

I remember being so close to adopting a Tiger once. But in the end I couldn't because I lacked the money. I hope to do one of these some day though. :\
